Alas, this, an X-pipe in a standard 4200 system, is one of the combinations I haven't tested. I don't know how the back boxes behave because I took mine off as soon as I got it. However, I would have though you will always get a bit of a rasp somewhere in the rev range because of the high gas flow through a relatively narrow pipe.

We should do a before and after video when we fit mine

The good thing about all this is that everybody will have subtlety different set ups, so will make for interesting comparisons if cars were all at one place at the same time...

I've got a video of mine with standard rears and standard x-pipe but sports cats driving round cheddar - I'll make up a comparison video before & after the x-pipe changez

We should start a new thread on that, just videos of different set-ups, with full description of car type and exhaust system fitted..!!

That's was always the plan, it's only now that we are getting enough video of combinations to do it.

I'll have to have a look back. IIRC, there was a fair bit of wind noise but I'll check.

If we can do all the video on an I-pad the archive would give a fairly consistent representation of the differences.

Edit: advise to listen through headphones...not your iPad speaker : )

Ok, here's a video of the straight-through x-pipe taken a few days ago. I didn't really push it at any point - speed wasn't the purpose here, just blowing away a few cobwebs at 3am. It's taken on a go-pro stuck to the boot of the car. The setup here is custom single cats, unsilenced forum-sourced x-pipe centre section, standard rear boxes.

And here's a comparison pottering around cheddar - this one was taken with the same go-pro in the same position (well, actually this was on the passenger side, the other was on the driver side, but both mounted just above the exhausts), but has a standard x-pipe section. The setup here is custom single cats, standard x-pipe centre section, standard rear boxes.

Personally, I much prefer the first one. You can hear the 'growl' and the pops and crackles sound great. Try accelerating in a highish gear with the revs between 2 - 2.5k and lift your foot. That's when mine starts to explode! The greater the 'foot angle', the bigger the bangs. Very juvenile I know, but it sounds fab in tunnels.

Juvenile? Never, a great experience!
They both sound great Chris

The first one for me. Which sports cats do you have?
