Is a Maserati Quattroporte Sport GT S a good daily driver proposition?

We have very different experiences of them. Mine have been poor. In fact the entire complex, particularly Porsche, have been poor from my experience. I wouldn't not buy from them but I haven't been impressed so far.

Garages are good at doing that! I never felt at home in the Porsche showroom so used the Aberdeen OPC when I bought my boring German car.

Don't get me wrong, I like the M5 as a machine but the image, looks and costs to run don't make it appealing to me. It's a bit of a crazy choice and reminds me of my business partner who strolled in a while ago on a Monday and I asked how his weekend was, this was his reply...

"I got soaked on the yacht yesterday".

Hardly one that creates massive sympathy!

Both cars are excellent for sure! Just that Maserati has more soul and that's something to value in my opinion.

Its funny how we have different perceptions. To me a BMW just represents a well engineered and made car, incredibly capable and just a good place to be. The Maser has more soul and style but brings other worries that have to be balanced against that. A BMW is seen as safe choice for a non passionate car lover, unless we are talking M3/5 of course.

This is the car that prompted the thread:

Comments welcome :)

Still nothing from BMW, not even an email saying sit tight. Pathetic customer service.

Cheers

Its nice no doubt but has to be weighed up against a few things:

- nearest dealers is 120 miles away
- fuel use at 18mpg real world is well under the new M5
- way less performance than the new M5
- more expensive servicing
- no warranty but could purchase one through ADG, dunno how much use it would be though
- already 3 years old, any major problem will mean trucking the car to Edinburgh for repair
- not 100% comfortable with the image of a QP for me, as much as I love them. Not something that bothered me with GS ownership strangely.

etc etc, I could think of more. Its heart vs. head essentially

- nearest dealers is 120 miles away....mine is a ferry trip away and 200 miles
- fuel use at 18mpg real world is well under the new M5....M5 looses 5 times as much in depreciation as running costs of QP....thats a crude guestimate!!!!
- way less performance than the new M5........yeah but think of getting there in more style than your average monarch
- more expensive servicing.....mostly offset by judicious use of price matching
- no warranty but could purchase one through ADG, dunno how much use it would be though.....just keep a warchest from money you'd have lost on depreciation compared to M5!!!!
- already 3 years old, any major problem will mean trucking the car to Edinburgh for repair...............I'd have to truck a new Beemer 60 miles in my neck of the woods anyways!
- not 100% comfortable with the image of a QP for me, as much as I love them. Not something that bothered me with GS ownership strangely...............eeemmmm....emmmmm....emmmmmmm!!!???

etc etc, I could think of more. Its heart vs. head essentially

The M5 will drop c£35k in 3 years so the excess servicing, warranty and fuel costs of the Maserati are pretty much irrelevant. A 520d and a GS would be a better use of £70k IMHO.

I am leasing the M5, you would never buy one when you can lease for under 600 quid a month! BMW have been giving them away on cheap finance for more than 6 mths now, the resale of M5's and indeed AMG's is in the toilet due to the deals that have run for most of 2013.

I guess tomorrow is decision day, appreciate all the advice and opinions. It is good to have your ideas tested with people as car bitten as myself.

The M5 will cost £37591 over 48 months as the deals are £4999 down and £679 x 48.

I'm pretty sure the QP will still achieve at least £15-18k after the same period so the costs will be less for the QP, even adding in additional running costs. Not that much in it though.

Finance would likely be only about £75 a month less for the QP so in reality, month by month, it's swings and roundabouts.

That's still £21k in 3 years an is it a 6+35 like many are now so really £25k?

Hope you make the right choice for you.

Whether buying new, or leasing new, you are loosing a wedge of money.
Even at £600 a month, say over 3 years, that's over £21k plus most likely a deposit, and then you walk away, after it has cost you say £25k. Okay the depreciation if bought might be even more, I don't know, but I certainly couldn't stomach paying out so much with no return just for driving a new car out of the showroom.
Each to their own I guess, if no one did it, there wouldn't be great value cars for us second hand car buyers!

I just can't see the attraction of an M5, OK fast, but dull and uninteresting, a mundane future indeed..!!

I'm looking to do that with a Ghibli. But I'm doing it through my company, to me it's a case of either give it to the tax man & my ex (via the CSA) or drive a very nice company car.

No brainer for me!

I think you have to drive one to appreciate it. The new DCT box makes the CC feel positively archaic!

Did you see the new Pagani, where they kept the single clutch technology because the customers wanted that thump in the back, and it saves 75kg in weight? I can rather go with that.

I understand why some see a BMW as dull, thats why they are attracted to Maserati as a brand. For me it is all about how a car drives and makes me feel so an M5 is more than a contender for anything Maser as a package. I sold my MCV last year and replaced it with an Evo X fq360. I will replace that lovely Maser one day but it will have to be something with balls out performance and a proper gearbox for starters.

The M5 will cost £37591 over 48 months as the deals are £4999 down and £679 x 48.

My deal is 6=23 at 680 quid a month, 13000 miles inclduing RFL and a few options. Its really line ball with the Qp hence why I asked the question originally.
