Great info thanks.

Are you getting 23mpg from the 4.7lt? ....
I like that this has a ZF box and not the F1 my GS had, no worries over clutches etc.

Mondie: yes, 23mpg indicated over 17,000 miles I have had it. I was pleasantly surprised too. However I am sure if you drive hard (lots of heavy footed acceleration/braking) this will drop. I actively like anticipatory driving, and as I said this is all leisure driving so no stop-start traffic jams, slow around town queues etc. but it is real so achievable. I was also looking at earlier cars but with the the ZF box as I agree with you on that, though it was the 4.7 and spec which made me buy my current car. Good luck. :)

We bought an M5 3 months ago that is due for delivery now but we are getting messed around by BMW finance because we are newish to the Uk from Oz and so dont have a long credit history. If its not approved by noon tomorrow they can jam it, the customer service since we signed up from the dealer has been woeful and this just caps it off. Had better service buying a new pair of shoes!

Anyway,I am hoping for some advice from owners of the now old shape QP, specifically a 4.7 GT S with the ZF transmission. Are these a reliable car and a good proposition for 10-12k miles year as the family chariot? Its now or never for the QP, I could never own the new one and this just looks like a good alternative to the new M5. Is servcing every 10k miles? is it expensive, are there common faults? Am I even mad for asking?

Comments and jibes more than welcome :)

Cheers
mondie

The only advice I'm going to give is.....Just do it...........One of the best Maserati to come over the last 10 years....

Cheers! We will see what today brings but I have a niggling feeling that BMW finance will be ***** and the dealer is already, put the two together and it seems this will not get resolved.

The M5 is hard to beat, it is so so capable and for me it would be the choice over a QP. I'd rather have a GT though as then it is all about looks and not about a super saloon car. BMW need to sort themselves out and mondia is right about the fiance deals. They are depreciation beating that is for sure.

Surely being up in Aberdeen you have contacts for fresh fuel straight off one of the rigs? :goodnews:

Forget the M5. You will regret it.

It all goes straight from the rigs in a nice big pipe down south. Could hack into it though!

Nothing wrong with an M5. Can imagine there are quite a few in Aberdeen though so the QP is a better, and cheaper, bet.

PS Noticed that we are getting a 2nd Maserati dealer in Scotland? Parks in Hamilton.

We are Bob, opens this month. They've been selling Masers through their Bentley Glasgow site (right next to BMW) for ages now. Competition with Graypaul can only be a good thing as they're not the best.

Bought my car new from Graypaul and always had it serviced there. Great salesman and service staff in my experience. Always discuss servicing in detail with them to see what I need and then they price accordingly - given I did 18000 miles in the first two years I had both a 12500 mile service and then the two year items done later. Will send it in at 25000 miles for another mileage service over the summer and then a full four year service at c33000 miles in 2015.

Always good to have a choice of another agent mind, especially since Graypaul is on the wrong side of Edinburgh for most of Scotland.

Totally off topic. Apologies.

95% of the time I drive my twin air in eco-mode. i.e. with the turbo disengaged. It easily keeps up with London traffic. On occasion I drive it on the M25. Once again, it has no problem cruising at 80+ with the turbo engaged.

There's no road tax and until 2015, no congestion charge either. It is the perfect town car.

In fact, everyone should sell their Massers immediately and buy 500TAs !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(Or something).

Eco-mode = walking pace surely....you can only actually overtake other animal on 2 or 4 legs by reving it to its MAX of 19000 revs........;)

Not sure you could regret owning what is one of the best super saloon money can buy......I would have the QP GT S but I would be happy with the M5....Stunning drive...

Not quite but the next best thing, a company fuel card.

M5's are rare anywhere, a sighting even around Aberdeen is rare. We drove to Cornwall for Christmas, covered 1500 miles and saw one! I wont be disappointed in the least if we end up in an M5, but its now the afternoon and BMW are still quiet.:firing10:

Stay in a Maser mate, get 23mpg and enjoy the ride, luxury with speed when required..!! You see loads of beamers but not many Masers..!!

Don't get me wrong, I like the M5 as a machine but the image, looks and costs to run don't make it appealing to me. It's a bit of a crazy choice and reminds me of my business partner who strolled in a while ago on a Monday and I asked how his weekend was, this was his reply...

"I got soaked on the yacht yesterday".

Hardly one that creates massive sympathy!

Both cars are excellent for sure! Just that Maserati has more soul and that's something to value in my opinion.

We have very different experiences of them. Mine have been poor. In fact the entire complex, particularly Porsche, have been poor from my experience. I wouldn't not buy from them but I haven't been impressed so far.

Last year I toured France & Spain, I saw loads of beamers, but only 1 Maser apart from mine, nobody looks at a beamer, they all look at Masers..!!
