Getting there Tim.
When do you hope to get it on track ?

Im aiming for first race being Brands Hatch 4th June (anything before clashes with going on holiday) and maybe Prescott hillclimb end of May. Will need to do some testing before though possibly go to Donnington.

Still not fixed the stalling under braking on the Vette, think it might be related to throttle plate position.

Mini box getting there after some faffing. The new mainshaft I bought hadn’t been drilled properly for the 2nd and 3rd gear retaining pins so tried to sort that but broke a drill bit so the new shaft is scrap. Went over to the lockup to get anther gearbox to strip and they’ve put locking bollards in without notifying me, *******!

Anyway, found a decent used shaft and partly back together.

Check float level in carb, then for vac leak from brake booster.

Thanks, I’ve checked the primary float and there’s no over spill from the secondary. Have pressed the brake pedal at idle and held it and there’s no effect.

I modified the primary throttle blades by drilling a couple of holes as the idle mixture screws weren’t doing anything (I was assuming that the throttle plate was open too much so not on idle circuit) but I had a holed float. Fixed that now and I think the throttle plate is too closed so not exposing enough of the idle drilling. Am waiting for a couple of throttle plates, will change them over and see.

I was asked a question about what I’d used to paint the car so here goes:

There’s some great videos on YouTube from Eastwood on painting, and The Gunman an Aussie bloke is worth a watch.

Body prep wise Dura Blocks are such a step forward from the old cork or rubber pad, these plus a length of roll cage padding did all my block work, expensive in the UK but cheap in the US, look on Amazon

I’ve got a 3hp 100l compressor and it was great, I bought it as my old 1.5hp one didn’t seem to cope, I thought the rings were worn but they probably weren’t, restrictions in your pipes make a huge impact. I swapped from the old imperial stuff to euro connectors and massively increased flow. Decent diameter pipes too

You need to manage water in the air so I used some copper pipe to cool it and a filter with bowl, you can get driers too. Still need to wipe condensation from the end of the gun every now and again.

Paint gun I used a cheap one for the epoxy sealer coat and this one on recommendation of The Gunman for primer, colour and clear. Get a little pressure gauge for the gun itself and a stand

I used a two pack recommended by my local paint place that was available in the colour I wanted and suitable for air curing. You need a ventilator for two pack. I used filters which only last 24hrs and are expensive so cost about £150 alone to do the car so if you’re doing more than one a proper air fed system will work out cheaper. Or don’t use 2K

Final stage of colour sand and mechanical polish really sorts any little imperfections have a watch of the Eastwood videos

For someone who confesses to hate the whole painting/detailing thing, the car looks great. I know Im only going from the internet images but the finish looks great- and it helps I like the blue too..!
Watched you put this together from the start. Impressive !:clapps:

I’ve watched a lot of the Gunman’s videos as I have some painting to do too. Thanks for the detail!
