Back in Jan 2002 I bought a new 4200 Spyder to replace my 3200 gt. But as anyone who's had an early Spyder knows, the chassis is rubbish and wobbly, and my £72k spend (from memory) felt like money badly spent. So in a fit of pique I decided to buy a Diablo. I chose a nice black 5.7 VT and ran that as my daily for a year. Then, by chance, I saw a blue one being photographed in my square in London, and walked over to see if it was for sale. Which it was. It had only done a few hundred miles, but was by then about 6 years old. A deal was agreed. I then sold the 4200 Spyder and the black Diablo, and kept the blue be as a daily for about another year (maybe about 6000 miles for me back then). Then, and I can't remember why (other than maybe it was sunny) I bought a 355 spyder in giallo-fly (yellow). What a great car. But suddenly a yellow 6.0 lt Diablo became available, and as hardly any of these were sold in the UK I couldn't pass it up.
So I then used this Diablo as my daily and put the 355 up for sale. I actually ended up trading the 355 at Meridien Modena for the gold Khamsin formerly in the Maserati GB collection.
By then I'd relocated to Dorset, had my first daughter, moved offices, etc. In short, life had changed. So, out went the Diablo and in came my first QP V. Brilliant family car. But not so good on the depreciation front! And far higher running costs than the Lambos.
