I was under the impression that the software on early cars can be updated?

I'm sure this has been done on my 2002 Cambiocorsa?

The attached explains the hardware and software.
Basically the earlier cars had two software options, and the later cars had five software options.
I say options, but you can only go up, not down apparently. So only one 'upgrade' on the early cars, then four on the latter cars.
Regarding the earlier cars, apparently the only one 'upgrade' makes the car 'softer' on launch, which might be not to everyone's taste.

I've been lurking on here for a few months now.

I've finally decided that I would like a 4.2 coupe however finding one that fits my criteria is not easy.

Ideally I would like a manual with 7 spoke alloys, facelift is possible for less than 15k. I am only a stone throw away from Shiltech which is nice when the time comes.

I have read that a PPI is a must when buying one of these cars, but what about buying one from a well known specialist, would you still bother with one?

Welcome to the forum Outlaw, and if you're only a stones throw from Shiltech, welcome to the Loughborough Maserati Massive.

Speaking of Shiltech, have you taken a look at the 4200 manual that they have for sale? It's not a facelift, but in very good nick and would give you something to measure future prospects against at least.

Best of luck in your search.

Welcome Outlaw. 2005 facelift manual is highly recommended. Any questions just let me know. Cheers

I read the the clutch lasts for a similar number of gear shifts but CC users change more often as the system is such a joy to use.

The clutch on my manual 4200 had done nearly 50k miles when I sold the car. Clutches may last longer on manuals given the ability to miss gears on such a powerful car. I would regularly go 1, 3, 6 on setting off.

I'm *pretty* sure you can do that on the CC as well. If you bang up 2 gears like a double tap, I'm pretty sure that it doesn't engage the middle one as it were.
Not certain, mind, but it's doing it damned quick if it is.

I think you are right. Indeed I do that in sport manual on my GTS. Thing is with a manual you can do more than 2 gears.

Correct, you can skip gears on the Cambiocorsa by double clicking, infact triple clicking too!

I see you have heard the CC gear box is slow........I will say against my M3 CSL the 2005 GS did feel slow and there was long travel on the paddles as well......But don't let that put you off as they are great cars and you just have to learn how to drive them...A 10 min test drive will not show you how good these cars are.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes.

I couldn't buy a car with multi spoke alloys I don't know what it is I can't stand them. Also I'm not keen on the colour combo.

I do really like the silver one for sale at Autofficina but those miles...........

I read the manual for the 3200 yesterday, very quickily, and I thought it mentioned that you shouldn't "jump" gears when using the paddles.

Really? I've been doing this as per Frank - dropping 2/3 at a time.

Can't recall anything like that in the 4200 hand-book

What it says in my manual is this:
– Wait until the gearshift in progress is
completed before requesting the
next one, avoiding a rapid sequence
of multiple requests.

Now that *can* be read you shouldn't double tap it, but my feeling is that if you're fast enough, the first shift won't have started, so you're OK.

I know they don't like grabbing 3 gears when you are already doing 130! But I've not had any glitches grabbing multiples even on song... :)
