Sensible decision... we’re all wishing you the best! Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread so far - I greatly appreciate the many words of sympathy, suggestions of what to do, and the heartfelt interest in the outcome. After exchanging messages with Matt I'm going to arrange a transporter to take the car to SportsItalia in Southampton, and we'll keep everyone informed as we know more.

Oh sorry to have spooked you! One thing's for sure, whatever it is, it's pretty rare, otherwise we'd have heard about something similar happening, so hopefully you'll be fine. Yes I agree, I was convinced, right there in the second as it happened, that I'd look in the mirror and see clouds of smoke. Nothing. I guess that's kind of hopeful. ThanksNow I'm shiitting myself for my 500+ miles trip to Luxembourg next weekend! Super-check before I go I think.
Hope yours is ok, I'm with those in thinking something external has broken, the lack of any black, grey or white exhaust smoke sounds hopeful sure if a bearing or ring had gone there'd be all sorts in the rear view mirror...
Good decision. Matt and Ash are great. Keep us posted on how you get on and fingers crossed it’s nothing too serious...Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread so far - I greatly appreciate the many words of sympathy, suggestions of what to do, and the heartfelt interest in the outcome. You couldn't find anywhere better. No I don't think I heard any misfire. thanks for the thought. Not that I know very much but did it misfire? I would have thought even tickover would be a huge issue if conrods or pistons had gone. Or anything internal. Not just noise.

Extremely thorough verging on OCD (good) fair and balanced.
My GT was transported to them in January when she had a tantrum.
She came back thoroughly sorted. And I mean thoroughly, mechanically structurally and cosmetically. Show room condition.
I've been meaning to do a short video write up and you'd understand.
You're in safe hands there
Robin

Hi - I'll ask about that. I'm a good 2 hours east of Northampton so it'll be their call I guess. If they can transport 2 they could take mine from Northamptonshire too.

Cheers. It maybe too far out of their way tbh.Hi - I'll ask about that. I'm a good 2 hours east of Northampton so it'll be their call I guess.
Thanks for the thoughts. That's bad luck with two Alfas having similar failures. I've had five Alfas over the years and the only major issue I had was a head gasket failed on a 1964 Guilia Coupe, which warped the head. The Alfa garage said they'd repair it but wouldn't warranty the repair. The car ran for many years after that. Yes I'm much relieved that's it's going to the experts down in Southampton. Thanks.Blimey, that sounds rubbish. Hope you get it sorted soon and the cost isn't too great. Had a couple of Alfa engines give up on me in the past because of cambelt failure but both cars came back from the dead. Clearly not this with your GTS as they're chain driven. Great that Matt is going to take at look at this for you. I've found his advice on this forum absolutely invaluable. Hope all works out.
