Indeed Frank but how many GTS's are for sale private, not one I think.

They then look at the dealer prices and price them £3k below the dealer price and hence keeping the prices high.

Agreed, it's all about the main dealers controlling the market.

There are masses of GT's stck piling, but the dealers are playing the long game and not flooding the market with stock, instead drip feeding the cars to extract as much profit as possible.

Is there any hard evidence for dealers drip feeding in cars when they feel like it?

I'm also going to be interested to see how dealers behave when I'm ready to buy - no cars are going to be on my doorstep so it won't be like buying even a Porsche. Even with more limited supply they will have to compete for my business. Also as with Porsche trying to fathom out pricing strategy dealer to dealer (reg year to reg year) is a game in itself.

Needless to say I'll keep you all abreast of my search when it gets goin properly.

I was speaking to someone who has a back door into this network who told me this and will be working with him to get my car. Sorry I can't divulge who it is as I gave him my word I would not reveal him and would jepordise his position.

Yes there is evidence.....Dicky has seen this. Delaers putting one or two on the forecourt with another 2 or 3 locked up untill they sell.......Sure he can confirm this...

Well.....when you look at it, they are low volume cars, they are expensive/prestigious.....so it sorta stands to reason that this is what they can do/need to do in order to keep residuals high and a degree of mystique about the car............nearly all 3 yr old cars are locked into/sold through the franchise network hence the complete control they have over the market place.

Understand completely your stance Matt....................no probs.

Fully understand Matt - helpful to know though and to a certain extent I understand why they would want to do this.

Well said. Most private vendors of GTs treat potential owners like muppets. If retail on an 08 08 with normal miles is £55k as trade is £45k then why would someone buy a £52k retail car given dealers will prep cars with warranty, service, paint, tyres, brakes etc worth at least £3k? Private sale should be £48/49k in that circumstance.

Looking at it from the sales department perspective - £10k gross less £1k discount, £1k service, £1.5k warranty, £1k for paint/wheel refurbs etc, £1k VAT on profit and add a bit for a kick back on the finance (£0.5k?). That nets to £5k on my maths for gross profit then all the fixed costs, salesman's salary etc and the few cars you take a punt on and lose cash on. Not a great trade really.

I don't subscribe to the view that there are loads of used GTs sat around 'in the back'. Before I ordered my new 4.7, I tried all the dealers bar two (Carrs (too far), Hurst (cars always overpriced and my 3200 came from them new which put some punters off with the V5 issue)) to get a used or deep discount new 4.2. Basically there is little stock out there. Some dealers have lots of punters looking for a three year old 4.2 and were prepared to put me 'on the list' and I have been offered some cars which never appeared on the Maserati used car locator as they went to someone on the list before they went public.

Bear in mind that prestige used cars sales were weak 2007-09 so there is not the volume of cars out there, hence high residuals. And if you want a new 4.2 for a big discount as the runt inthe litter, ring around as there are not any. I strongly encourage people to do the maths on a new, low spec, factory order, discounted car. You get the 4.7 and if you keep it 6-8 years as I intend to, the maths are ok versus messing about with two used GTs over that period. Plus you get your colour scheme which suited me as I did not want black or silver.

Interesting thread, been away for 3 weeks. There are loads sitting around and yes, they will be £35k at the end of the year. If you are fairly knowledgeable as most of us are, you'll get a 4.2, 40k miles at the auction in Nottingham for even less on a good day by November. Now they'll be about £40k. I'm starting to get excited, I'll be involved when they're £35k region. Going to have to forget the 4.7 and have DMS do their thing on a 4.2 instead.

Interesting DG...good to see a man have the courage of his convictions and say it out......35K.....hhhhmmmmmmmmmmmm...will be lots of interest then, lots of cars changing hands for GTs next year too.

DMS is the route to go...plus maybe a brakes up-grade 6mth later with a subtle exhaust mod or two when bank balance has settled down!
