Loz, I would go along with that line of thinking.

Still, if Maserati produce more cars and I mean 80k cars a year instead of what circa 10k cars at the moment (up from 3k cars a year only a few years back), we will see more and more members on the forum as they attract drivers of other marks, especially Alfa, BMW, TVR, Porkers etc...

If you look at the size of Alfaowner that is sort of where I see Maserati forums in the future. Its a natural progression for the Alfa enthusiast to make the jump to a Maserati, especially with what Alfa are serving up at the moment.

No offence to Alfa, but they are chasing sales and have repositioned their cars accordingly.

MORE USED MASERATIS = MORE MEMBERSHIPS

You have forgot about the Alfa mate? I still want to buy that but will have to take some finance on it.

Once I have done the deal with the offices I can remortgage and get some of my capital back so its not all doom and gloom on the car front.

Far be it for me to spread doom and gloom , but heard on the news the other night that one of the EU directives next year is to slash UK property prices to bring them inline with the rest of europe ......God forbid

Loz, I read that too.

Its far from the craziest idea to come from Yurp, but you can be that if anything will force the UK out of Yurp, its this. What 'feelgood' remains in the UK only remains becuase people still think they've made a killing on their homes, and the government will do all they can to maintain that.

As we heard on the news yesterday, real estate is being bought in your country(London) guys, as some kind of save haven while stock and the euro is doing bad...............quite the opposite of what i read in this topic.

But back on topic?

The 4.7 engine, went through my thoughts earlier.
Parts seem to be cheaper as this very offer, but don't we need a new crancshaft, ore is the stroke of the 4.7 the same?
Only question is: Should we do such an engine transfer in the first place?
After hearing quite something abut the 4200/GS, i am afraid the last thing the drivetrain of a GS needs is more torque.
I gathered some very good contacts selling the TB's in Europe with some indies and a Maserati-Ferrari dealer in Germany lately.
What i heard is, that the engines of the 4200/GS are bullitproof indeed, but the drivetrain is NOT.
Bent and thus vibrating torquetubes, whining gears/bearings in the gearbox/finaldrive, occasionally synchromesch problems etc. etc. when driving very firm. (As they tend to do in Germany)
Funny how circumstances can influence the avarage opinion about things: A very well known Dutch Indie states there are hardly any problems known on Dutch cars.
But that is understandable of course; if you drive 10 mph too fast, you end up doing prison in our country.:thumb:

Funny you should say that Luuk , only heard the occasional drive train problem here on the 4200's, has been more of a common with the 3200's since my time on here and MF ,

A few times its been reported in the early/warranty days that main dealers were swapping out actuators like hotcakes when in actual fact it was a faulty/intermittent F1 pump, love to hear a difinitive answer on this , as in Holland not too many reported cases here in the UK to my knowledge

As the German contact said, the German situation differs from most other countries, as the factory confirmed.
Of course, everyone suffers the occasional hydraulic and clutch problems, but the severe loads especially some German cars have to bear, make driveline faillures much more prone then elsewhere.
It where the german conditions he said, that made the factory decide to mount the gearbox-oilcooler on the EU cars, as they are not mounted on the USA cars.
As for noises: if you do not mind the occasional slight whine or minor vibration, no one would have to exchange parts of course.
As i hear a slight whining sound in 2/3 gear (hot), my Indie stated he could hardly hear what i meant and said that the car was in very good condition.
The minor vibration at 2800rpm also was nothing to be mentioned and absoluttely normall he said.
At this point, knowing/hearing about more severe driveline problems in Germany, i think lots of cars suffer from first (minor) signs of wear, never causing real problems however, due to the less severe load conditions.
If those cars would be punished day by day on the German autobahn, i think real problems would occur earlier.
As the German contact said, he would expect the first real exposure (on forums etc) of these problems within the next years, as the last Gransports run out of the extended factory warranty now.
He claimed that till now, most gearbox-exchanges where quietly performed under warranty.
I will closely follow any developements on the German forum of course and let you know.
One last thing: The gearbox/driveline parts itselve are well built by very capable firms in general.
Only problem is that (not only!) Maserati tends to order parts that have to run on theire limits, trying to reduce costs.
Pitty.

In the UK it will shortly be mandatory prison for driving 5mph too fast......car confiscated and your children sent on convict ships to Australia.........
