Why would someone be selling a two year old engine out of a nice GT if there was not something funny?

Yeah, she would fit no problem. The only consideration is converting it to dry sump which I can't see as a difficult job, just swap the bits over from your original engine.

Loz....a nice winter project for you?....

Loads of eastern europeans buy up our cat b salvage bob, and ship it back to russia poland etc etc for breaking and parts , you would be surprised what actually ends up back on the road somewhere hopefully if it must over there and not back here

That could be fun in a 4200 or a GS. Add a DMS upgrade and Larinis and you could have a right hand drive 8c for sensible money.

WOuld have thought it was the same size as the 4.2......As said above would be an interesting project in a leggy GS....

Indeed Andy it will all be the same. The only pain is that it does not come as a complete unit, really you need the ECU but recon you would just need it mapped....and as above I think the GTS engine is wet sump/blue cam covers. The GS is dry and this is so the engine is shorter as the wet sump would be too tall so you would have to change them over....and the scavenger pump. This might also have a bearing on the type of oil pump used too but I pretty confident it will be the same.

It might actually be cheaper to change the pistons and liners in the 4.2 to acheive the same result. I'll go have a look on ES.

4.7 piston with rings are £180 each and the liners are £140 each so that's £2.5k plus some other bits like gaskets, shells and gudgen pins and your looking at £3k. You could swap the engine your self and an engine rebuilder would want £1k in labour. Add a remap for about £750 and your still about half the price of the used 4.7

Of course, you need to do your homework by comparing part numbers on ES to see what you need. If I get a mo today I'll look into it further as you never know, the pistons and liners could be the same and it's the con rods that are shorter, but suspect not.

So it would appear that the extra .5L has been gained by a combination of shortening the con rods, larger bore pistons and liners.

Still, £4k for the upgrade, is it worth it?

100hp upgrade, I recon so and still cheaper than a supercharger kit.

...another thought I have just had, SimonM has an aqua locked engine, prime for a 4.7 upgrade, what you recon Si?

I think you might have been right Frank, its not too late to do a MaserSod!!!

Problem is I have to find £75k for 2 offices I have put an offer in on, so the GTS is highly unlikely now. Still, I have the Alfa coming in a year of so, if not I think I will go back to a GS at around the £20k mark and might even buy an aqua locked one and do the above?????

Goes without saying Frank.

I have worked out (turning 40 this year with no pension) that if I make some sacrifices now and get my head down for the next 10 years and pay off the mortgage on the offices, I can retire(semi) with a half a million nest egg that will give me a rental of £2.5k per month.

That would leave me free to push this forum. With all the surge in production that Maserati are planning, we are potentially looking at a larger slice of the forum market, so I can see it turning into something quite large.....with the support of our loyal members of course.

Thats where planning and foresight comes in Matt.......great base to work from here....but we do need more of the GT/QP mob to come on board........or God forbid are they only interested in a very fancy high end car and not truly Maseratisti??

Constant evolution is the thing......

Im reasonably confident that when GT/GTS prices come down to the 30K mark we will have another surge in membership , there is a huge glutt of these cars out in the market place unsold at present , when they become more attainable to the true passionate enthusiasts then see will see a major increase......................of course thtas my mere humble opinion
