Apart from not having red brake calipers that's really lovely (for a face lift!) I'm already spoken for.

As nice as it is at least £5k over priced- what did the trade bid look like ?

Maybe so, time will tell....not being sold to trade so have not made the enquiries. Its one for the someone looking for their perfect spec, in perfect condition. Rarity and condition always commands a premium to the right buyer and the pictures have already garnered interest. Will see how things go.

Got me wondering though so here are a few dumb questions

Did the Executive GT model not make it into the Facelift range?
If you want a full automatic box (as I do!), what is the point of the paddles and also how do they work - is there a clutch involved? Are the paddles there on every model in the range?
Was the Piano black dash available on the Facelift range?

Be sharp now (please)

Paddles allow you to override the automatic gear selection, or go into full manual mode. To be recommended. No clutches were involved in the making of this car [1]

[1] Not *actually* true, but not the clutch you mean :)
[2] Sharp enough?

The executive GT didn't reach the facelift cars. There were 3 editions:

Quattroporte 4.2
Quattroporte S (4.7)
Quattroporte Sport GTS (4.7)

There were special editions, like the Black & Zegna Edition (4.7) etc

Paddles were an option on the 4.2 & 4.7 S, standard on the Sport GTS. They allow operation in manual mode to be done not just with the up and down of the gear lever. On a car with no paddles, one can't override the auto without being in fully manual mode, the paddles can override auto. This allows you to 'dip in and out' with the paddles while still in auto mode. There's no clutch involved, it's a ZF gearbox fully auto in all cars. Piano black was available, I have two here:

Going on the market next week. Few more pics here in advance in case anyone fancies it. No hurry to sell. Asking £40k which will include a full service at Maranello and anything that they say needs doing will be done and included. Very sad to see it go. Needs a good home!

How can it be said that it is overpriced without viewing. It looks to be utterly perfect throughout. If someone views it and it is tatty, poor history, or issues, THEN it can be stated that it is overpriced.

It does, I haven't seen the variators mentioned, Craig has his 4.7 done under a recall I believe , if they have been done it's worth mentioning in the advert

The variators are not a recall item. They are just a known possible fault which can affect the cars.

I believe that this one will be late enough for the variators to no longer be as issue. Was the problem not solved from around 2009 on?

This was the wording of the advert which led me to believe it'd been done free on his 09 car so if it was done under warranty in 2012 I wonder why people are having to pay 4k + now

The headline news on the service history is that the variator issue affecting 2010 and earlier cars has been rectified. Variators and check valves were upgraded to the post 2010 design under manufacturer warranty at Joe Macari in 2012. If you are unfamiliar with the variator issues on these cars, familiarise yourself before buying one ! it's a very costly repair if not already upgraded. Sportsmaserati.com is a useful site for such info.

Did this just efeect face lift cars or was it an issue on all QP's up to 2009 ?

In my time with Maserati have done them on both dry and wet sump engines mainly QP and GT not done any on the M138 Coupe or GS.

I keep toying with the idea of adding paddles to mine - I've experimented in manual with the gear stick but it doesn't feel right without a clutch pedal to mash at the same time. Also my box will auto shift when you get to the red line which is not what you want. Don't know if this is different on the GTS. Will be interesting to see how this affects the driving in Oct at Llandow.
