So we can immediately save 15% of our annual electricity usage by having warm beer, and another 5% by getting a newer telly. So a saving of approx £600 a year at the October cap, and probably £1,000 at the January cap, without doing anything else.

Solar panels , new electronics ,led light bulbs , electric cars & charging points.

Funny how all this saving electricity involves spending vast sums of money which generates taxes.

Petrol engines fail at lower miles if abused, so not sure its a reason to throw the whole idea out.

It doesn't cost 30k for a replacement petrol engine in a family car though

A guy I used to work with had a petrol fiesta for 8 years without a service , all he did was mot it and if it failed they fixed the fail

Even when the oil filter rusted through he just put a new one on it , topped it up then got another 2 years out of it until the clutch went where he limped it to PX for another one , even when abused petrol engines can last for years.

It doesn’t cost £30k for a new battery either, or so it says in the article. It’s one of those internet folklore things that people jump on.

My mate reckons his costs £10 a day, and turned his off and drained it last weekend as his new contract starts tomorrow (31st). Will go up to nearly £40 a day!
15 years ago I bought a TV from a guy in Rugby , lovely old house which was where Frank Whittle lived in the 30s , he'd extended it with an indoor pool
I commented on how nice it was , he replied , it is but it's £100 a week to heat it and you can't turn it off because once it goes cold it takes days on full power to get it warm again

I guess these days that £100 would be £500

A friend of a friend heats their pool using a ground source heat pump and solar panels (for the pumps and heating the coils when the temps get below 5 or 10 degrees I forget which), costs them practically nothing now they've had them in for 5-6 years now.
They're adding battery storage as well, they have a huge house and yet their annual fuel bill is probably less than £1000 a year including the pool.

Renewables done right.

Technology has come on a long way in 15 years , trouble is at my age I probably won't live long enough to see any savings :D

A friend of mine went to spend the winter at his house in Provence. He discovered when he got back to his Northumberland house that the indoor pool heating system had malfunctioned and had been stuck on 'hot' for three months. He couln't bring himself to tell me what the bill was.

How many Hot Tubs are still in use I wonder?
Mine is on. Set to 10 degrees heat. As it’s been 26/27 just sat in the sun. So I’m not hearing just putting water thru filters. As soon as it gets colder it will be getting drained and going off for the foreseeable future. Missus uses is very hot days at the moment.

Normally 3kw.
so, 3000x 51p = £1.53/hr = £36 ish a day. But they don’t heat 24 hrs a day. Mine is well insulated and was costing £30-35 a
Month in winter. So I’d expect at worst maybe double.

Solar panel and battery installations are 0% vat.
Are they? I might ask my local solar dealer about that, I'm going to pop in later this week about an off grid DIY job on my garage. See if I can power the low current circuits to take the edge of the bills.

On another note, my ten year old panels are 2mx1m and each produce 240W. Today Similar sized panels are nearly 600W. Unfortunately, under FiT rules my installation has to remain unmodified.
