Similar story here with our 17 year old. Worked at a Thai chain Friday and Saturday nights for about 5 months. She works another job now in her chosen career all day Sats so told them she would have to drop Sats. They didn’t even have the nerve to tell her she was not wanted and just gave her no further shifts. It’s appalling behaviour. She’s still on their WhatsApp group as only she can remove herself.

They only pay out in cash for tips where mine works from a pooled pot. I have a suspicion that card tips don’t find their way to the youngsters…
She’s allowed to keep a cash tip given by someone who specifically hands her money and says ‘this is for you’. Happened a couple of times before Xmas from old couples.

She defo gets card tips itemised on her monthly salary slip.
Defo no keeping of tips 'this is for you' though.

That's a 40 hour WEEK, not an HOUR.

Apprentice panel-beater (when hammers and dollies were used, not plastic fillers)...

Dear God it's the 400 Yorkshiremen sketch!

There's a large difference between the menial jobs many of us (myself included) did at a young age, and running front of house in a national chain restaurant!

Nice to read that youngsters are actually working for a living, so many can’t be arsed.
I think staffing levels are a real problem at the moment so that might go some way to explain the fact she was on her own.

Basically, if she wants all the clothes and socialising with her friends/taxis fares, she has to earn it, which she has no problem with.
Infact all her 'normal friends' have part time jobs.
Staffing is a problem, she wasn't meant to be working today at all, last minute call last night... Can you....

Like yours, all three of mine had to get jobs to help pay their way, including making some provision for Uni- they all have a great work ethic

My daughter doesn’t get an itemised payslip, just money paid into account for hours done and tips in cash…..
She did ask the boss when the specific couple who she looks after every week gave money to her ‘for Christmas’. She was going to put it in the pot but he said ‘no, that’s yours’.

With regard to card tips I thought it was odd when a party of 8-10 were in, had a £400 bill and the 6 staff on duty got £2 each tip. Now most places have a standard minimum ‘service charge’ for larger groups which is usually 10% ish. There were other tables in that night too…..
Maybe they don’t do the service charge thing and they didn’t leave a tip at all..

Exactly.
Within a couple of weeks went from just clearing plates/taking out drinks/food, to then also taking orders and card payments at the table.
I'm very proud she does it and generally doesn't complain, but with no support today, on a busy bank holiday, with several large groups of 10 people too!

No but I have often thought it when the plates are shoved at you. Where do the legal of this lie?
my wife did it at the Ivy, wasn't happy with the service, as i understand there is no legal reason that a service charge is payable unless it's clearly noted in advance before you order
