Further to the list of faults with the car, the aircon isn't much cop, found out that today. A friend told me to nip along to his mates at Kwik Fit to regas it for £50. I politely refused as I'm not letting a Kwik-Fit fitter near my car!
I've fixed the cd changer in the boot, I removed it from its holder, disconnected it and whipped the top of it and found that a CD had got jammed in there. To free it there is a small black catch at the rear and using gentle persuasion it moved into its 'stored' position. With the top off, I reconnected it and inserted a few more and gave it a through test. It worked fine so I restored it back to its normal position. As for MW and LW, I dismantled the NIT unit and found another antenna cable and plug, but it didn't help. It merely changed the buzz to a hiss and FM didn't work so I reconnected the original and will have to do without Test Match Special or Radio Five Live for the time being.

This is becoming a bit of a blog, but I've now fixed the window, this is a story in itself as I used OEM parts but from another vehicle saving £100 in parts alone! Even a breaker wanted to charge me £50 more than new. Needles to say he didn't get the sale!

As for the Sat Nav disc's I have some information that you will be interested in...PM me for info!

Hum aircon and Kwikfit, now there's a story.

Took my 3200 in to have it gassed and they seemed to do a good job so off I poodles back to work park up and go back to my desk.

About 5 mins passed then someone burst not my office shouting your Maserati is on FIRE!

I steam out and pull the bonnet as plooms of smoke are pouring out off the engine bay! WTF!

It turned out in the end not to be smoke but steam.

They had been so rough with it they had partially pulled the header tank off it's pipe, then it let go p!ssed water all over the manifold and turbo, which could have split the metal but I was lucky.!

Called Kwikfit and the embarrassed owner came out with a fresh bottle of coolant and de-ionised water.

Monkeys the lot of them

You have to keep the male garden well trimmed, i tend to keep mine well tapered, you cant let it get out of hand down there as many bad things can happen.

A friend said to me a long long time ago is 'never use a company who cannot spell their own name correctly'. Kwik fit being one. Please feel free to add to this list.

Anyway, NIT Discs, I have now managed to source fully working disc for Great Britain. I don't want to put links on here, for fear of the thought police (I'm not referring to our beloved moderators here) closing down the site. It was surprising simple to find once to go to the Proprietry website and do a search on the proper name of the product.

I'm due, as I said earlier to go to Europe Belgium, Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, France and Luxembourg then retruning to blighty through Belgium. I will also source disc for these countries and report back with their serviceability.

If you want to know where I got them from PM me. I had to convert them from Nero Specific File format into and image file but I'll keep the explaination simple and non-geeky.

That could be very helpful information MLC. In your searches, did you come across any NIT update software?

I can see where your coming from , its great and rewarding to have everything working as it should , but you will get totally pisssed loading the details of where your going into the sat nav , especially in Europe , and its not that accurate either , so take a tom tom or equiverlant with you , mark my words you will thank me in the end , to be honest your be thanking me before you cross the channel to go over there , voice of experience

I spent about half and hour just to load in my mum's address! So I agree it is a b**** to work (Sat Nav not my mum!). When we go on the tour, we'll use the Sat Nav, then the GPS on our phones and if all else fails, I'll take a map!

Anyway I'll be around Europe a few times so I know my way around, head towards the sun everyone gets darker so you must be in Italy/Spain or Greece, head away from the Sun everyone becomes Blonde so Germany or Holland or Scandinavia if the tank/budget stretches that far!

I mean How Hard Can It Be?

Exactly , but we do seem to panic these days when we leave home on a journey without the dreaded satnav ,in our household lucky enough to have 5 cars but we only have 2 satnavs, so it often happens that we jump from car to another without changing the sat navs over , 2 miles down the road when you realize, the panic sets in , why i dont know , especially when i spent 15 years of my life working and travelling in the middle east and europe and never had any major probs , cost of fuel nowdays probably has a lot to do with it , certainly would irk me now taking the wrong exit of a motorway and having to do a 20 mile detour , now thats an expensive mistake, and the quickest way to reduce that fuel budget

Sorry but I haven't a clue as I've merely found the link. I haven't had chance to download them yet let alone test them. The sat navigation does work curiously though in its routing and it's prompts were incorrect in places. I imagine the firmware upgrade would iron out these issues, maybe adding more functionality too. However a word of warning, I don't know what the current firmware version is let alone have a disc to regress to if the newer version doesn't work or wipes it clean. Just making you all aware.

Martin.
