Any thoughts on the Irish non hard border ?

Are you proposing a flacid border, Wattie? A disappointing border. A brewer's droop of a border. A border that doesn't quite live up to expectations and frankly leaves everyone feeling letdown and embarrassed.

A certain Person A currently lives in the Gold Coast and person A is currently enjoying all of his freedoms including that of movement and the benefits of travelling within it and all the rights he or she currently enjoys to see mates and family in the various territories of his beloved OZ.

Person A’s country decides to have a vote to take back control of laws money and borders and now Person A has to go and carry his id/passport and maybe a different currency to go visit his family and friends on the same OZ land mass.:(

Did you read my post on this?
But EU officials indicated that arrangements for the Irish border are still not finalized.

We are in intense discussions with the Irish authorities about these matters," one EU official said. "We will of course continue and intensify these discussions over the coming days," the official said, adding that the EU is considering options for financially helping Ireland in case of no deal.

While noting that the U.K. is a co-guarantor of the Good Friday Agreement and would in a no-deal scenario have to respect World Trade Organization rules, the official said that in a no-deal scenario, both the U.K. and Ireland "will need to take unilateral and temporary measures to protect legitimate trade, consumer, and public health.

We would again expect the U.K. to live up to its commitment to avoid a hard border while protecting Ireland's place in the internal market."

Asked about physical infrastructure on the Irish border, the EU official said extra controls will be needed but that "we are working very closely with the Irish authorities, we try and perform the controls away from the border." They did not offer details about how this would be done.

What??? You’re not sure if their will be a hard border under no deal.....surely that’s automatic!!

If It can be avoided in a no-deal scenario, how on Earth is it a COMPULSORY NECESSITY under the withdrawal agreement!!!!!!!

This whole thing is a *** stitch up......Mays NEGOTIATED A DEAL that has a backstop which isn’t even needed!!!!!!

Brilliant negotiating you stupid, useless, dishonest, incompetent, pathetic, weak, humiliated, miserable excuse for a PM.

Why aren’t our MP’s pointing this out!!!!!

So again tell the People of Ireland about having a border or being border less.
Europe has just said it will be borderless,...under no deal. Ie NO CHANGE.

But May signed us up for a backstop, wtf!!!

There doesn’t need to be a hard border as the EU has just just proved.

We would again expect the U.K. to live up to its commitment to avoid a hard border while protecting Ireland's place in the internal market.

Why on earth would May negotiate something into a deal that Europe has just proved isn’t needed and that traps us in the EU as per the legal advice (she tried to hide) ???

Incredible.

Great that’s settled then. Immigration control sorted, goods and services control sorted, WTO rules sorted.......now tell the DUP, the ERG and the people of Ireland. Everyone is happy and gets what they want.

So what are our feelings about the HofC PM vote...a good thing I believe.

I am coming to the conclusion that ok, this looks like a mess but this is something that is very important to the UK to get right and if it takes time.....it takes time.

My only concern is Labour and more so JC...he will be a d!ck during the negotiating period and just use it to cause more problems for his personal agenda of downing the Tory party because he wants to be PM.

If JC does get into power, Wattie, have you a spare room?

Can you clarify...the HofC PM vote?
I think voters would hit the Tory and Labour Party hard for this disaster......neither of them may get in!
Sure, It’s yours.

I think it is good too. The deal has become toxic and has created an impass.

The only danger is that we will end up with a General Election where Corbyn might do well and over time I have become less and less impressed with him.

The choices under a GE are pretty bleak, with both Tory and Labour parties likely to disintegrate under the strain of trying to agree a Brexit strategy. Under these circumstances a new ref and a new PM might be the preferred option.

Ok, the Pm’s Deal. Should be dead and buried.
Rightfully so, diabolical regardless of which side of the fence you are on.

I honestly fear
no consensus for anything else - I have this is ominous feeling now A50 will be rescinded......hijacked.
or some wish washy pretend Brexit.

Regardless, I think a lot of Mp’s will be out a job if they try to pull a GE and if they do pull A50 I think all **** could break loose.

Zep, the General Election is a worry...hence why May is still PM and will remain so. If the Tories vote her out, even they aren't dumb enough to realise this.

If there is a General Election, first the Tory party will have a leadership election.

So thinking logically for time scales, if article 50 is recinded, the Tory party election followed by General election then second vote. Then we are into 2020.
Second referendum 2021?
Leave EU (if leave win) 2023.

Sorry, the should have read, MP vote not PM vote...the thing they voted on last night for the MP's to take some control.
I fear it is going to increase the round and round in circles as none of it is binding and perhaps lead to the worst deal ever being accepted as some are now feeling backed into a corner......

Brexit: Jacob Rees-Mogg hints he will vote for Theresa May's deal
The Independent

Leading Brexiteer Jacob Rees-Mogg has signalled that he may be forced to support Theresa May's deal rather than risk the UK staying in the EU. Read the full story
