The backstop delivers “zero” other than the Uk’s Sovereignty to Europe.

That’s why it received the most humiliating defeat in commons history.

The main points of the leave campaign were:

Regain Sovereignty
Stop immigration
Stop paying EU
We will be able to negotiate a trade deal with the EU under the same terms as we have now as they need us so much.

May’s deal and the backstop actually deliver this.

Speechless.

“The backstop actually delivers this but by the backdoor”

Your backdoor is about to get totally * ucked by the Eu.

17.4 million voted for this surrender.
I don’t think so.
We’ve more pride and belief than u can imagine.

You’re the only Brexit voter I know so you get the brunt of the questions.

Why is what is being proposed by May surrender?

Specifics please not they’re stealing our freedom, Brexit, chance to have an empire.

You clearly have not a clue so I’m not gonna bother explaining it to you.

I don’t think many remainers would be happy with this “May deal”, like parliament, so will leave it to them to explain.

Don’t take offence.
We’re just polar opposites.

The Back Stop is exactly that a position to fall back to if an alternative trade deal cannot be found. The issue with the Back Stop is that it locks us in to an as is trade deal with no ability to negotiate other deals and there is no appeal or cancellation process which means we could be locked in permanently.

If how ever we can negotiate a trade deal with the EU then the Back Stop never comes into play, but if it does there needs to be an exit path / timeline even if it's without a trade deal at that point.

In theory common sense suggests a trade deal between UK and EU is good for all parties but currently the ability of either side to negotiate to a mutually beneficial agreement seems impossible to achieve, each side making demands in the take it or leave it style.

Well done Theresa May. What a *ucking brilliant piece of negotiating......we may never leave. That’s BREXIN then!

“If however we can negotiate a trade deal with the EU.....blah blah”

Cos that’s in the interests of the Eu?
Not.

So remainers must love Mays deal........bit like they all wanna join the Euro (except Geoff who was the only one that answered and was honest)

Remainers, please explain to “noballs” how Mays deal is great for the Uk......

Errr..?

Steady on there, Wattie. This is a friendly place for friendly people.

I can understand his frustration, he did partially explain in post 2079, which since I've found out something else makes a bit more sense of his position.

Wattie I wasn't trying to push your buttons I genuinely didn't understand.

I've spent most of my train journey Googling things like "Rees Mogg Backstop" and "Brexiteer, ERG backstop" and all they come out with is the usual stuff about freedoms and sovereignty. Eventually I found this, in the Guardian of all places, I'm pretty sure Wattie has the same view as me of that particular paper:

The legal text that followed, drawn up by the European commission, stipulated that until a workable solution was found, Northern Ireland would be part of a “common regulatory area ... and customs territory”

Now I understand the Brexit side, up until I found this out I didn't know about the "common regulatory area" I just thought it was a common customs area.

No offence was intended and I apologise if you were upset.
It’s high stakes political poker at the moment and unfortunately I believe our mAin player is showing her hand to others and she doesn’t really believe in it in any case.

Think I’ll bow out of this now. Whatever happens I wish everyone, whatever happens, well. I hope the Uk remains dignified and respected, globally.
