Hi there

I have always liked the shape of the 3200/4200. Though i have always opted for the safe option eg M3 and my current 996. I think if i do not take the plunge now before i hit 50 i never will.

Looking to buy a 2003/2004 4200 cc. Have a 15k budget. Currently got my 996 up for sale so have only looked at 1 so far. It was a lovely mid blue, interior seemed a bit tatty for 38k. But apart from 2 service books(thats right 2) and the V5 there was no other paperwork:bad_smile::bad_smile:

I understand servicing is annual and at 6, 18, 30k. Is it reasonable to expect a service history to have all of this? So far the adverts i have seen if you are lucky have just been serviced annually. Are SB Engineering and Bill McGrath any good for servicing and are they the only ones in Herts?

I am thinking cc as it seems to suit the car more than a manual, what do people think?

Last Q. Any guys or girls local who would be willing to show us around their cars, i am in Watford.

Many thanks.

Brendan

Hi Brendan, your research is coming along nicely!

Welcome to our forum....enjoy your stay and post to your hearts content!

The main piece of advice it to get and indie inspection done, this will cost £200-300, and could save you £1-3K if it shows up even routine problems

Will link up our indie garages for you

There are annual AND mileage specific services......as the cars do less than average miles, these are sometimes combined

Not sure if many around Watford.....see the next post

Hi Brendan and welcome, I was in a similar situation to you and took the plunge with a 4200 CambioCorsa and have not had any of my fears realised, these are probably the best kept secret in supercars bar none. The appreciation from other road users is amazing with positive comments from people almost every time you climb out to put some go juice in it or nip to the shops (just not in your scruffs & slippers or the local plod may be interested - eh Loz?). Seriously the smile starts the moment you get hold of the keys of 'your Maserati' and the smile is fixed, never had that feeling in anything else.

Indipendent inspection is the mantra on here; naturally I didn't but I knew the previous owner of mine.

Try and get along to a forum meeting and have a sit in a few of the super motors that attend. I'm sure there may even be a mid blue bargain coming up for grabs in the Somerset area in the next few days, be quick as I think it will get snapped up....

Welcome to the fold, you've made the right decision, I owned a few 996's, good cars, 4200's are great cars! I've not got any early 4200's in at present but give me a call if you would like help sourcing one. Exciting times, buying your first (of many) Maseratis.

Hi Brendan and a warm welcome to the forum.

German "bathroom tiles" are all well and good, indeed you can't ask for a more perfectly square "bathroom tile" than a German "bathroom tile", but there comes a time in a man's life when you meander listlessly into the "bathroom" and wonder.. 'I'm not excited; surely there's something more than simply being perfectly square?'

Well you've arrived at a "decorative" Italio-Germanic crossroads, and just in time by the sounds of it.

Source your "tiles" from further south!!..... You'll have a much more engrossing relationship with your "bathroom" (sometimes good, but sometimes bad), but I guarantee that you will never regret choosing a "bathroom tile" made in Modena, after all, they've decorated some of the world finest "bathrooms".

Great stuff Miles. I have to agree. Those German tiles do the job alright. Tiles from Modena make you 'feel' like you are at one with your bathroom though !

Brendan, from my experience, I much prefer the CC as it suits the car perfectly and it is nice to use whereas I found the manual I tested a bit clunky. Also, a freer breathing exhaust is a must, so change/remove the silencing in stages until you get to the right sound for you; much too loud is just about right! Just accept that it will use lots of fuel however you drive it and servicing can sting at times but don't scrimp as it can come back to bite you. Whatever car you buy is likely to have transient electrical gremlins from time to time; the Italians call it character, the Germans call it unreliability. Having said all that you will smile every time you drive it and you will want to drive it a lot. Welcome to the madness!

Selling my 996 at the moment. In 3 weeks i have not had a sniff not even a dodgy email from someone offering me the full price without seeing the car.

Anyway on Thursday a genuine bloke turns up keen on car has deposit on his but his buyer has not completed the sale yet. Last night the cars key gets stuck in the ignition. Then the spare remote fob stops working, i can use it manually but it will only operate the drivers door(no lock on passenger side). So i cannot lock both doors! Grrrrrrrrr!

Sounds like you are slipping seamlessly from German to Italian! Might as well get used to it. Enjoy!

Brendan, once had that happen on my 996. Took about a week for Porsche to fix it and cost about £400 as I needed a new ignition barrel. Hope yours isn't as serious. May be able to help you out as I'm looking for a 996 for a good friend of mine. Give me a call if you wish, thanks.
