4.7 in place of 4.2 in a 4200/GS

I know anything is possible, but can the 4.7 be fitted in place of the 4.2?
Whole engine, just the bigger capacity block?
....or is it just too different, gearbox mating problems/electrics etc
People have mentioned it, but is it a realistic possibility?

I believe the 4.7 is a wet sump so some significant changes to consider and accommodate, don't know what else needs sorting. However as they are essentially the same block surely it would be possible to put the liners, pistons and rods into the 4.2 to take it up to 4.7?

More base power and torque from the 4.7 so, IMO, it may well be a worthwhile swap. It's potentially on my to do list if I blow up my 4.2.

4.7 is wet sump and will need to be converted to dry to fit as its too tall, and the reason why the 4.2 is dry sump.

The thing would fly in a GS, but you would have to address the brakes and suspension IMHO.

Thinking about upgrading the 4.2, I thought of various options, 4.7, Supercharger etc, then the answer spanked me in the face.

You take a 3200 and plum in the 2 turbos, its all there, ready to go as the engine bays are the same. It should all fit and the only tricky bit are the manifolds.......would put out 550-600hp and all you need is a donor 3200 for what £5k and you could sell the rest of the bits and get your money back!

How about fitting a 4.7 and the turbos as well? That f*cker would fly. Probably straight on at the first bend when the turbos kicked in!

I'd definitely be up for considering something to get the engine into mid 5s for bhp / torque.

I guess it's about cost / logistics / quality...

Anyone know of somewhere in the UK that could get the job done right (for less than the price of the car!)

No idea about cost, but if I was thinking, first guy I'd call would be Chris Snowdon.

He built my Giulietta, and is completely trustworthy, as well as being a thoroughly nice chap.

Turbochargers from a 3200 isn't a very good idea since they're matched to a completely different engine platform. They wouldn't produce much extra power, most of it in the wrong rev range with high rev characteristics resembling those of a diesel.

I reckon they would give better low end power and less lag as they would spin up quicker due to the increased exhaust gas flow. They would however tail off quicker as well. It would be better, IMO, to get them modified with slightly bigger compressors to give more mid range and top end.
