I think a new rad (water) is circa £450 so maybe better to go new rather than recored?

Sorry can't help on an alternative for the condenser rad.

Unfortunately you cant change the hoses without dismantling the radiator ie drill out the rivets from the frame. My experience was that it was just the smaller front core that needed replacing (about £160 fitted) rather than both cores - if it had been both then probably worth going the new rad route as Matt suggests. As the radiator was apart I replaced hoses with silicon. If radiator out might be worth considering changing radiator fan themostat at bottom of fan casing as precaution as these fail regularly.

Hi
Many thanks for that
Do you know if this hose is one of those supplied in the Roose kit?
Is it just a case of drilling out the rivets to get the rads apart? Guildford rads were implying a fair bit more work.
If so, I think I should go back to them and get them to pick apart radiators and check individually.
Your right it isn't a huge amount more for a new rad versus total recore although it is a further 2 week delivery from Eurospares (part is to order on their website)

Hi Ian, my radiator company actually dismantled radiator so cant recall exactly but I am pretty sure they said they just drilled rivets out. I'm sure there was a "How to" on here previously. If its just the hoses then worth pursuing but if recore there is quite a bit to rebraze hence their comments - I am sure someone will come along and find link.
The hose to the Turbo(s) was made by Roose based on my old one and I understand is now part of the kit (one for each side)
The thermostats are known for sticking either shut or open after about 10 years so worth considering replacing while system drained down.
However the part I was describing poorly is the fan resistor - part 5 on page 30. See below for old and new part 100_2663.jpg

THe fan resistor is the same as the 4200 one, it is a standard Alfa part and I'm sure it is in many modern cars; I have to replace mine too as it looks about as poor, These can be as cheap as £10 from China where they are made. Perhaps we should do a bulk forum buy?

Hi
Just chased up Euro spares on the resistor and apparently the factory does not have any stock!! Anyione found an alternative source Scuderia don't have any either.
Popped over to Guildford radiators today to check on my 3200 water radiator. Great guys and sure they will do a fine job. Will get both re cored and by the sounds of it they will do a better/stronger job than a new unit.
Will need to replace the 4 P clips from he power steering cooling coil which screw into the radiator. I can get them from stock at Eurospares but not the screws (13274011) anyone know the source or size for an alternative?
Have taken the cooling fan frame back from the indie to re spray and tidy up while waiting for bits.
Feeling like a good citizen doing all this preventative work, but keen to get driving and the 2 weekdrip feed of spares from Italy is doin me head in ....

Stacks on ebay, but no new ones.

Which factory are Eurospares talking about? It's a standard Alfa / FIAT part, so any dealer should have one.

It's the same for all the 156 / 147 / GT based cars.

Brill many thanks for the part number.
Just got a new one off Alfa Workshop for £27 + VAT and £3 postage.
They are quoting £19.79 + VAT for a job lot of 10+ but only have couple in stock at the moment so I grabbed one to keep things moving.
Is there an equivalent Alfa part for the Thermostat ?

Good price. Jamie comes up trumps again.
I don' think either the temp sender, or the thermostat are shared with Alfa.

The internals of the 'stat' might be I guess.

Although you can fit the cheaper Alfa part, I would recommend fitting the genuine Maserati part for the simple reason they might be set to different temperatures, is it worth saving a tenner for?

Do you think so Matt? I really doubt that they are that sophisticated, there are two versions as I understand but they are a very crude assembly and all made in China anyway! Look it up on alibaba B2B and you can get to the factory making them; minimum order though.

Hi
Just got my shiny coolant radiators back from Guildford Radiators and they look better than new.

Radiator.jpg

While they were being sorted I took the opportunity to strip and respray the fan shroud and with the new resistor in place it looks like she may finally be ready for some fun this weekend.

One quick gothca, I sourced the 3 x 28m replacement hoses from Paul at Roose Motorsport to replace the ones which join the radiators. He supplied hosing with 'standard' wall thickness which was just too hard for Guildford to stretch around the flanges so I would suggest if you want to replace the hoses use the thinner wall thickness which he also can provide.

I just said sod it and left the old hoses on - stupid I know but enough fettling I want to go and play ......

cheers

Ian
