chaps
Coming back from sharnbrook even yesterday, noticed an odd noise because I had the window open.
It started as a whirring sound, but then got worse to become a metal-on-metal screaming. Almost like a badly slipping fan belt.
Stopped to check under bonnet and Auxillary belt still present and turning, oil and coolant both present (in the car, not smeared down the road)
The sound is not there an engine idle.
No sound when driving at speed and car in neatral.
Sound increases with engine revs. Increases more with engine under load.
Sound does not increase in proportion with revs.
I do still have a lovely engine butble at idle and 5 bar oil pressure, so hoping it is ancilliaries
Drove the 15 miles home keeping below 2000 rpm with no ill effects. My water temp diod creep up from usual 70 to 90 degrees. Cannot face looking under the bonnet again just yet.
Hoping it might only be a failed water pump. NOT seized turbo or massive engine fault.
Ideas to pinpoint the fault? Don't want to move it again, even to get to a garage.
