Well that has shaken up the grid a bit for today. Should be a bit more interesting.

What the feck is happening. All the drivers are being introduced like it’s an American football match. This doesn’t work. The drivers look so uncomfortable with this apart from Logan who is whooping with the best of them.

No worse than the pointless grid **** that has no place at a motor race except to allow knobs to shmoooooose. Bloody hate it when you have to sit there like a dick for absolutely no logical reason at all, and they won’t even let you have a f@g anymore.

Still third and see my youngest has moved up a few places as well. Miami though - what a horrid track. Not a fan…Oh well Imola next isn’t it ?

DRS needs to go. They promised it would but seem to have gone back on that. According to Sky the most exciting bit of the whole thing was when a fighty little Scot went and got some random hob-knobber for Martin to talk to!

Well certainly an interesting start but the result was never in doubt with the performance of those Red Bulls, I was surprised at Ferrari they certainly have a quick car but not great at race pace

It’s a tough one - if cars can’t follow then you effectively need DRS to overtake, otherwise you just end up with a procession - which is what we get with the DRS trains. The Magnussen-LeClerc battle was entertaining because of DRS. You can’t regulate for the combination of a superior car with a superior driver, it’s always been like that in F1 or Rallye etc. Seasons like 2021 are rare, with 2 exceptional drivers and 2 great cars - it was a “changing of the guard“ situation that you get every so many years, both in terms of the car and in terms of the driver. The budget cap is more of a problem as once you’re ahead, the others can’t spend their way back to the top. It’s just a pity Ferrari can’t get their act together, they should have been challenging Red Bull last season (and this one) and should have taken at least one WC from Mercedes.

They should make the cars lighter and smaller again - of course keeping strict safety measures. That should take away some weight allowance for expensive technologies - so in theory the cars should be closer with more space to overtake and with the right aerodynamic rules there should be less turbulence so easier following and more overtakes.

The new aero regs were specifically put in place to get rid of DRS. It’s not just this year it used to benefit Mercedes. If WEC can work without DRS they ought to be able to sort F1

The Red Bull with DRS is just unstoppable. How the **** is that so different from all the others ? Surely the others team would be looking deeply into the Red Bill every time they walk past it.

If only they could find an extra £1.8m down the back of the sofa for an new aero package ;)

The Red Bull is remarkably quick but the way it performs under DRS is something extra. Normally DRS gives you 2 - 5 extra mph but this year the Red Bull is generating twice that. I am sure the other teams are looking into how they have achieved this as it is a major step up. The aero regs do allow the cars to run closer together but in parallel they have reduced the DRS zones this year which has caused them to be virtually unusable unless you are the behind a car that doesn't have it.

F1 cars have grown enormously over recent years, the width and length must be having an impact as the tracks haven't got wider, there is just less space to overtake. If you watch F2 & F3 cars which are much smaller there is more opportunity to pass which makes the racing more entertaining. The problem is to make big changes takes time and all teams need to be in agreement, if you were Red Bull why would you agree to anything that might negate your advantage?

Around 10 years ago Christian Horner was interviewed and asked what was the best decision he had made as team principal of RBR. His response answers your question Andy 'convincing Dieter Mateschitz to hire Adrian Newey for 12m a year'. His record across various teams speaks for itself.

Ah yes…Adrian….The best in his field of expertise.

I met him once at a Lotus event at Silverstone and he is a true gent. He had built a 320BHP turbo charged mark 1 Elise back around 2001. His brief was to have an Elise with the same power to weight ratio as the Ferrari F40 and McLaren F1. Great man.

Can't argue with that although he has been known to bend the rules somewhat so he probably feels at home there :)
