I’ve hit a bit of a plateau - both mentally and physically...

I’m still not drinking and cycling a lot, and have started racing in Zwift once a week where one of the key metrics is power divided by weight. This meant I realised that if I kept losing weight I would have to go up a category in the races - and would instantly become uncompetitive.

As a result, I’ve had two weeks of snacking and eating too much, and justifying it by saying it would keep me at the front end of Cat C races. This is working, as I’ve not lost any weight in the last two weeks... as shown below with comparison to beginning of the year

Weight - 87.3kg ———> 83.9kg
Body Fat - 25.4% ———> 23.8%
Lean mass - 65.1kg (so 22.2kg of fat) ———> 64.0kg (so 19.9kg of fat)
Body Water - 51.3% ———> 52.5%
Visceral Fat - 11.5 ———> 10.5

I think what I need to do is get back doing two weights sessions a week so that even if I’m staying the same weight, I’m still working on reducing fat...

Last weeks slight increase has been rebalanced and after 4 weeks I have lost 3.17Kgs or 7lbs. body fat has reduced by 1% and certainly noticing that even my flabby bits are become more toned

Bit of an up and down couple of weeks for me too.
The ups were I’ve got a date for hip surgery - 15th march.
The downs were I started getting a pain in my left chest. Could feel it when beathing, lying down etc.
Seems that although I thought I was taking it easy in the gym, I wasn’t taking it easy enough and I’ve strained my chest so I haven’t trained for over a week to let it fully recover.
This is a very frustrating long slog at the moment and I’m gonna have to be more careful.

Take care mate, I know how frustrating it can be when you are temporarily out of action and you just want to get back into it!!

Nothing worse than health issues interrupting your normal routine, recovery takes time and the patience is key - take it easy

This weekend I discovered that I can no longer effectively digest nuts. This lead to 24hrs of excruciating stomach pains and lots of vomiting.
On the plus side, by Sunday morning I was 2kg lighter! Then I spent the day gently replacing my lost fluids and have regained 2kg by this morning.
Easy come, easy go...

Today my stomach feels bruised on the inside and is still cramping from time to time, but it's infinitely better than it was on Saturday.
Still managed this morning's bike ride followed by garage gym session. according to the PT I've made some good gains over the last couple of months despite not having the full array of gym equipment at our disposal.

Fingers crossed Boris will announce a re-opening date for gyms later today.

That's interesting what you say about nuts, I had some peanuts the other week (well I say some, it was a big bag of them) and they went through me like a hot knife through butter.
Does our body start intolerances against certain foods as we get older? as I used to eat peanuts all the time when younger with no issues at all.

Glad you're on the mend mate.

I started to develop food intolerances from about mid-30s. Am now intolerant of gluten, lactose, and many nuts and fruits. There is research that indicates that some fruit and nut intolerances/allergies are synonymous with allergies like hayfever, ie if you are allergic to the pollens of certain plants/trees, you can develop a reaction too to eating their fruit/seeds, particularly during the pollen season. Reading that research made a lot of sense of my particular hayfever and fruit/nut related reactions. Still, at least no intolerance to meat or fish..

By the way, a peanut is actually a bean not a nut....

I'm sure you've all been worried sick about me since this announcement. So I thought I'd update you on my prognosis...

Still experiencing mild stomach pain, but now more constant like a bruised feeling rather than cramping. It gets worse if my stomach is cold, the warmth from my hand resting on it is enough to calm it. No more vomiting though.

Been eating sparingly and blandly, so expect to be back to normal in a couple of days.

No more nuts for me! Not a great loss in truth. But it has made me wonder if there are any other new or developing allergies or intolerances which might explain occasional stomach upsets, bloat, lethargy, and reduced focus.

Is there an official test that can be carried out at home? I've seen ads for such things on FB but after research they all appear to be scams.

I’d notice my shirts becoming tighter in all the wrong places so took to the scales for the first time in over a month. It so transpires I’ve put on 10 lbs since Christmas. Oops.
So yesterday I went for a 5km run and did my first no-alcohol day of the year. There’ll now need to be many more of both of those.

A mate of mine woke up in a hospital in Seattle with a tube through his neck to discover he'd developed a nut allergy. He is in his mid-50s and collapsed in a hotel lobby on a business trip. The doctors reckoned it was a combo of dust, stress and nuts. Whilst he should be ok to eat nuts again, there's no way he will.

As regards a test, same mate as above tells me that the scratch-test has been around forever and is still the best way of determining allergies. Best make an appointment down at the quacks', I reckon.

Anyway, glad you're on the mend, fella.
