I've always wondered how the scales can tell all these things from a current reading through your body. I'm old school here too, I use a mirror to see fat! lol

Well done Newton. Keep going. January is a boring month so make sure you push it all the way till the end.

Cheers Matt, but in reality this is a 20 month long push for Dan and me if we are going to do this Kayak challenge in a respectable time! Keep the motivation going though, we all need it and I'm sure it is helping others to stick with it...

I am becoming very aware of the hunger demons at the moment so I must be starting to work on the longer term fat stores, as Chris points out the easy access fat has yielded in the last few days with a quick conversion, now the hard work starts and I'm sure the results will start to slow up.

Being hungry is a good thing, it means your loosing weight as your body goes to its reserve store for calories.

Try and keep this in mind when your nose strays to the cupboard.

Being hungry is also good for your brain. It improves alertness and mental agility - basic survival instinct, really; if we're well fed we can afford to become complacent because we don't need to be alert to passing deer and other tasty snacks. The 5:2 diet is not only is physically good for you, it's good for your brain as well.

4k metres rowed yesterday, but a disappointing 2:24 / 500 metres. Still, it's good to see the room for improvement. The Harry Metcalfe video where he took his eBay Roller to the Arctic was excellent company. Headset needed - the rowing machine is too noisy.

Try to keep the strokes under 2m/500 on a 1000m row to start or even 500m and then learn that exact cadence needed. I always aimed to keep sub 2min/500m strokes even when doing 4k rows. It will come for sure.. What resistance are you on? I used between 5 and 7 as a rule. I think 7 is water....

Good work all round boys...keep it up.

Dancing is really good. I'm often the last up still standing if ending up in a club. I'll just get on the floor and go bonkers for hours. Often have massive calf pains the next morning which proves what I did the night before!

Definitely headphone needed Adam as Tacx Flux is a bit noisy when I my. Using laptop speakers! Must get my sound sorted soon.

After the Christmas excess I was 13 Stone 1 lb (having earlier averaged 12 stone 10 lb)
Today I am 12 stone 12 lbs so almost back to my pre Christmas weight
I will be aiming for 12 stone 4 lbs.
I have reverted back to my pre Christmas eating and drinking habits.

Interestingly my mate in the boozer last night said he was surprised when I told him of my goals because he thought I should be putting on 1/2 a stone not trying to reduce it.
I think today's 'normal' is actually overweight and so it is unusual to see someone with the correct BMI but he may have a point
Any comments on this?

Under 1k metres I can easily stay under 2:00/500. Much over 1.5/2k and I'm pushing towards 2:15/500. I'll be a happy chappie when I can achieve under 2:00/500 over 4K metres plus. I set resistance to 10 for 1.5k sprints but on a longer duration I use 7.

Society definitely seems to be normalising overweight. Overweight couples normalise each other. Their overweight kids look at their parents and think it's OK. They look at their friends and the same thing.
When I was a kid I knew precisely 2 other fat kids. That was that. When I went t secondary school I recall one other in 700. Maybe a few more at uni.
But when I started losing weight about 20 years ish ago, I started noticing that people fatter than I was became more and more common.
And now, of course we're not allowed to call anyone fat.
Two of my best and oldest friends were skinny as a rake when we were at uni. Now they probably weigh 50-75% more than I do, and somehow they stlll think it's OK, if not normal.

While there are significant issues with it BMI is *for most* a pretty good indicator if someone weighs too much. Sure, the Lions would all be obese, but curiously all those that I hear saying their 'red' BMI is fine because BMI says the Lions would be obese have never been anywhere near a professional sports field.....

Really? my Flux S is quiet quiet. Was quite surprise how quiet.

I just use a wireless speaker. Plenty loud enough as well.
