No probs, looks great anyway.

When it comes to wax stage, one cloth should be good to do the whole car and when you are done the cloth should only feel slightly waxy, if it feels clogs you have wasted a load of expensive glaze!

Slight deviation but I've been looking for a link to another site (I think) where some chap (professional detailer) described his cleaning process in detail. I thought it was on a post about someone's car getting detailed but I can't find it. Any ideas? Thanks.

Prepare to waste a morning reading....I suspect it would have been on www.detailingworld.co.uk

That site could change your life! LOL!

AJB, I take it when you are saying zymol caked you are referring to the light blue cleaner wax from Halfrauds?, It's not like other polish type products, you actually need a light mist of water to create a secondary haze to get the best out of it. It's a premium product and delivers about 14% wax but at least it is not chemical so what you put on stays on. Nothing like the true glazes though with some of them up to 70% wax!

If it is a glaze that is caking you are massively overloading it, a Maserati size car shouldn't need in total more than a broad bean's worth of wax....

Hi Newton...do yuo mind giving a few more details please?

Do you use one of those yellow pads to apply or can you use a microfibre?
Do you wet the applicator so it is damp or do you mist the car?
Do you just wipe it off after a few minutes, or mist the car and wipe it off?

Also - what's your polish and waxes of choice?

Sorry for the number of questions, just learn from your expertise.

Thanks

No problem; I take it you are asking more about the zymol cleaner wax from Halfords?

Ok firstly it looks like many of the chalk based petrochemical products but it isn't, in fact it has no chemicals or petroliants. It does have a very very tiny amount of abrasive material in it of the quality and regularity of 3M Finess but a fraction of it; this makes it a true polish over a glaze.

Don't use it in direct bright sunlight, shake the bottle well and keep it off the rubbers and shiney trims like plastic chrome. Use a slightly damp cloth or one of the fancy towling covered sponge applicators and sparingly apply to an area not more than two foot square. Working it in straight lines following the lines of the panel for a minute or so, if it starts to dry, mist it with water from a spritzer (spray). Using a clean dry cloth wipe it all off, don't worry about small streaks or marks at this point, move on and repeat till complete.

Take a clean cloth and mist the whole panel lightly with your spritzer and buff it up briskly, all the little cloudy streaks will go and you will get your bang for buck moment...

Totally different from any other polishes or waxes I know but it is perfect for that product. Not a touch on the zymol top end waxes but I can cover them another time. I'll go crawl back under my shell now...

Wax of choice... Atlantique or Vintage glazes but on mine at the moment is the rufty tufty Titanium as I've still to sort the paint out 20 months into owning it! Watch this space!

Newton - it would be great if you could do a master class for the amateur car cleaner/detailer. I really enjoy cleaning my cars and spend fortunes on various products, many of which are a complete waste of money!

I'm not volunteering you, just sounding out any enthusiasm you may have for passing on a few pearls of wisdom from your experience.

Great tip - thanks so much mate. I've got some of the Halfords Zymol stuff - smells delicious! And now I know how to use it. Am I ok to just put a wax straight over it? I've got a tin of Collinite 476.

Really appreciate the advice from someone in the know.

Also you did not use the word "dwell". For some reason everyone on Detailing World seems to use this word like it is going out if fashion, does my head in!

I'm happy to run some workshops at meets, I'm amongst friends here, I just don't want to get dragged back into the pain of the industry again. Don't get me wrong, I loved it most of the time but in the end it was not nice and people I trusted mugged me for some big sums. Surprised me some of the people who turned out to be real pr@ts.

Newton,
That happens all the time in business mate, unfortunately you can't trust anybody 100%, but once bitten twice shy, as they say..!!
Cheers
