I was asked a question about what I’d used to paint the car so here goes:
There’s some great videos on YouTube from Eastwood on painting, and The Gunman an Aussie bloke is worth a watch.
Body prep wise Dura Blocks are such a step forward from the old cork or rubber pad, these plus a length of roll cage padding did all my block work, expensive in the UK but cheap in the US, look on Amazon
I’ve got a 3hp 100l compressor and it was great, I bought it as my old 1.5hp one didn’t seem to cope, I thought the rings were worn but they probably weren’t, restrictions in your pipes make a huge impact. I swapped from the old imperial stuff to euro connectors and massively increased flow. Decent diameter pipes too
You need to manage water in the air so I used some copper pipe to cool it and a filter with bowl, you can get driers too. Still need to wipe condensation from the end of the gun every now and again.
Paint gun I used a cheap one for the epoxy sealer coat and this one on recommendation of The Gunman for primer, colour and clear. Get a little pressure gauge for the gun itself and a stand
I used a two pack recommended by my local paint place that was available in the colour I wanted and suitable for air curing. You need a ventilator for two pack. I used filters which only last 24hrs and are expensive so cost about £150 alone to do the car so if you’re doing more than one a proper air fed system will work out cheaper. Or don’t use 2K
Final stage of colour sand and mechanical polish really sorts any little imperfections have a watch of the Eastwood videos
