Well done John, we started at very similar weights so “the race is on”

Perfect - I think we also have similar goals as well in terms of where we’d like to get to by the end of January. First one to lose 5kg “wins”?....

This morning will mainly be up an down ladders and then a couple mile walk with the dog and if time I might get the MB out for a quick trek to the woods and back

I’m ok with that, I may even have it tomorrow! Maybe go for % lost on starting values to make it fairer on everyone?

Interesting idea. I was intending to challenge Matt to a private race (as we are similar in terms of starting weight), but we could easily open it up to all.

5kg is just over 5% for me and Matt, so how about we say first to lose 5% of their starting weight? A little bit of friendly competition can’t hurt...

137 x 0.05 = 6.85kg for me that would be a little unfair given my starting point!

Ok - challenge accepted. First of us to see below 87kg on the scales owes the other a case of red wine...

Any suggestions for how to even it out to allow for different starting positions?

That said I’m staggered I could genuinely be at 5% weight loss in a week! At 6’ 1 1/2” my BMI healthy range is between 63 & 88kg.

From 137 sitting me on the boundary of ‘very obease I’d be stoked to get anything under 100kg at the end of all this in 22 months (end of the kayak challenge)...

Im sure someone will figure it out; Dan and I have a serious long term target to meet so realistically it would count us out of this one I suspect.

The encouragement generated on here is fantastic and I hope everyone participating can use it to the maximum.

But with care - I've got rower's ar5e! :)

Blimey - I decided to have a go at a rowing session this afternoon so did a 2000m warmup, and then 6 reps of 500m@1:58 with 1min recovery. This was followed by 2 circuits of 10 reps of the exercises below (picked by my 11 yr old daughter who wanted to do them with me!)

Turns out I’m rubbish at Swimmer and Inchworm!

I was a a smidge heavier than you. How about -5kg from our last weigh in. Mine was Friday night, yours this morning....within 36hrs of each other.

MATT:
91.6kg so target for me 86.6kg

JON:
14 stone 1lb is 89.5kg so target 84.5kg (13 stone 4lbs)

If we can do weigh ins Monday 9pm and Friday 9pm I can do this on the accurate scales at the boxing club.

If we both hit it on the same weigh in it’s a draw, fair enough?

Is there anywhere you can see what weight you should be? I'm knocking on 17st but I'm also quite a large lad all over...

Works for me - but I’m doing all my weigh in’s as I wake up, so will do mine on Saturday morning going forward.

Going forward I’m also going to switch to my new scales, and they seem to weigh a bit heavier.

This morning on my new scales I was 90.15kg (see below)

Jon - I like that rowing regime. I failed to do any at all today, but now have that lined up for tomorrow.

On the upside, I walked 6.2km and apparently exactly 60 minutes of that walking was brisk. Pretty much a non-event from a cardio point of view, but better than sat on my ar5e.
