I think today's 'normal' is actually overweight and so it is unusual to see someone with the correct BMI but he may have a point
Any comments on this?
Society definitely seems to be normalising overweight. Overweight couples normalise each other. Their overweight kids look at their parents and think it's OK. They look at their friends and the same thing.
When I was a kid I knew precisely 2 other fat kids. That was that. When I went t secondary school I recall one other in 700. Maybe a few more at uni.
But when I started losing weight about 20 years ish ago, I started noticing that people fatter than I was became more and more common.
And now, of course we're not allowed to call anyone fat.
Two of my best and oldest friends were skinny as a rake when we were at uni. Now they probably weigh 50-75% more than I do, and somehow they stlll think it's OK, if not normal.
While there are significant issues with it BMI is *for most* a pretty good indicator if someone weighs too much. Sure, the Lions would all be obese, but curiously all those that I hear saying their 'red' BMI is fine because BMI says the Lions would be obese have never been anywhere near a professional sports field.....
