Can't argue with that, Phil. I get Feli to go over the car very carefully every time it goes in. I pay him for it, of course. I'm arranging to take it back to him to look for this specifically though!

Chris; let me know when you are there; I'll piggyback mine for a thorough check of the arms too :)

Will do. It'll likely be a Saturday morning. Hopefully none of us will be driving home slowly

as I said in an earlier post, i was not keen on driving marci down to edinburgh without having this checked by someone before I went - I'm really, really soooo glad I did…..front driver side split right through from one end to another and gave me such a chill thinking what if……passenger side has been replaced in the last few years from the look of it (i'll research all the papers to find out when) and the backs look ok. to say i'm gutted would be an understatement :(
split one looks old enough to be original but i can't see ant part number/maserati mark on it???
speaking to Phil at PK now about my options since it is not a hop, skip and jump down to his place from mine and i'm definitely not driving her anywhere!
for some reason i can't seem to attach pics, might be a mac problem my end so have attached a link to the pic on my photo site. http://hipflask.smugmug.com/Cars/3200-wishbone/

Looks like it's been like that for a while Greg. Hope we get something sorted out with all these soon.

It is wide enough to suggest that but we will not know for sure till it comes off the car. Interestingly speaking to phil he says he has seen a couple of these recently no doubt due to the publicity highlighted from this thread. He also commented he has seen it on a DB9?
Even if maserati never come up with the goods and we never tie this down 100% to faulty materials over age, we need to remember that this thread may just have saved someone, somewhere a nasty if not deadly accident.

Today was her first outing since early October! And will be her last, and Benny will love this, till she goes on a low loader to phil's :(

You are right on the threat Greg, it would be awful if one failed and someone was badly hurt..!!

So we are seeing about 60% failure rate so far then? I reckon MOST 3200's will have signs of this mainly due to age and the fact that there is so much torque! :)

So, should we start a list of cars that definitely have found cracks, identified by SMF handle only to prevent any outside action..!! This will give us an indication of how many we have proven so far..??

Makes sense but think that is in hand with the vosa stuff. Would also need a 2nd list of clean cars noting which have original part or have had them replaced at some point..........with my passenger side one looking quite new I do wonder if that was replaced due to cracking in the past or for some other reason?

Sounds good.

I wonder if we need to start a thread and make it Sticky then Maserati can easily locate it when VOSA come a knocking. On the thread we need to put which control arm suffered from it, model of car and age and also if we have submitted a VSDR online submission (VOSA).

The main reason you would replace a control arm is simply because the ball joint wears/breaks. As discussed for a £20 part you need to spend £1k which is madness.

Testing your love for the car now eh Greg? :)

My suggestion was to make sure that each member with an issue had it listed somewhere, there is no guessing if it is in black and white and each member can double check they are on the list, or not..!!
