I paid an additional customs fee, about £30 I think it was...

As did I which was split between customs and Parcelforce charge.
However I reckon it is a quality bit of kit and still a very good price even with that surcharge. I am more than happy with the service from Craig.
And if Craig is in the area I will join him at Greg's house to put a dent in his bottles of malt!! lol

Indeed, i was so happy with the kit plus the video it mattered not to me. I think writing gift with value $100 or under should avoid this charge going forwards.

It won't - we've discussed this before. The customs chaps can decide what it's worth, regardless of the written 'gift value'. The only way to guarantee no import charges is for it to be marked as returned personal items. This implies that they were sent out of the country for someone to look at, and then returned to the owner... ;)

Think Craig sent mine as a gift at $75 from memory but HMRC were not having it.
Think he "forgot" to mention the tie rods themselves so guess customs thought the rubber boots were very substantial from the weight of the package! Lol

This is true. But there must be an evidence that the item was originally sent to be checked. So, you can send an empty box, just to have the receipt of the shipping.

It would be quite helpful if someone installed the rods and tested them as well. This comparison would be great.

I used to buy a lot of snap on tools from the states via ebay and never paid any duty on them, are there rules around 2nd hand goods?

Not that will help us in this situation!

They used to allow loads of stuff through - simply a man-power issue. Now it has become the responsibility of the courier to handle the fee as it enters the country, and generally they are keen that you pay it rather than them.

Ah right, I thought something must have changed... Glad to see they spend our money so wisely!

Well guys I missed all the chatter! I moonlight as a diesel mechanic as well and Ford with their previous Navistar engines has been keeping me busy.

Coming back to mailing though........I do believe Drew was correct. I even marked some down to $50 and these guys weren't having it. I was concerned that if I sent them all over the border "returned personal items" I would get flagged and/or they would stop all of them. I am almost caught up with all the orders only one or two left. I tried to stagger them and it worked really well at first.

I guess I will just send them returned property. I tried every other thing and it doesn't work. Very sorry guys. I am definitely trying though.

Went to fit mine today and found the old tie rods are seized into the control arms, normally I'd use heat to help loosen things up but since the control arms are alloy so thats a non starter. I read in the manual that they use loctite when fitting these. Is it just a question of soaking in penetrating fluid and waiting. I did wait a while. ANyone have any ideas? I know Craig drops the weight of the car onto a spanner in his video..... haven't tried that yet.

Nick the reason I do it is because of the very reason you are fighting with now. I am pretty sure you could put the car on a lift and hang off the jam nut and it will not break loose, maybe if you had a breaker bar to leverage it but then you'd be back to letting the weight of the car do the same thing with leverage. Even with a car lift I use the car to work for me. If you are going to use the weight of the car just make sure the wrench is set the right way. Righty-tighty......lefty.....loosey. Sounds pretty basic I know, learned it as a kid but you don't want to strip the bolt either. Additionally just use a metal plate of decent thickness so the wrench slides and doesn't dig into the ground. I've done a few of them and I haven't found an easier way.

Would I be too late to get in on this?
