Given the photos of the rain there you posted...there may be a fish impaled on the end of it

I might have a chance to drive into London and to my office in Aldgate on 24 December but just dread the reaction from my work colleagues. :strangle:[/QUOTE]

Not far from me. I work in Broadgate.

Broadgate is indeed very much next street. I am on Leman Street off Commercial road. It's a nightmare getting in and out of there. Very bad state of traffic. Luckily as a cyclist I am not affected.

When I got home with my car 18 months ago my neighbour came over and said "we can see where the money is in this street" to which I replied "well, you can see where it used to be anyway".

How right I was and it has been worth every penny

After about 30 years of commuting on the Metropolitan line, in the summer a bought a Renault Zoe electric car. No train fares, no congestion charge, no rfl, and free parking on meters in the west end. I even got a good deal on a parking place in the city, albeit with a 10-15 min walk, but as I am terrible at doing any exercise, that would be good too.
After 3 months I was back on the train. The terrible traffic, and crazy motorbike riders everyday made driving not worth losing my sanity!!! At least what's left of it...
From Harrow to the City, in the morning only 35-40 mins, but not that much traffic as I have to be in work by about 7am. The return journey 1.5 hours or sometimes longer, and that's a distance of about 13 miles.

The pub is the nearest one to me that sells reasonable ale (John Smiths)
Other than that it is a dump and has nothing to recommend it, the food is typical pub fair - poor
The toilets are a disgrace, I have never seen the manager
I have complained many times to the owner (Spirit pubs) via emails and surveys and nothing is done so I have stopped
It is called the Southern Cross and is in an area called Marton.
I would not recommend it as a potential meeting place for this forum!
As I say I can walk there in 20 minutes and have a few and stagger home in reasonable time for late night TV and a corned beef slice

I know how to live!!!!

Quite a few 5*..... but several mention the "weird smell.".... "Talk of Fighting"... and "disgusting toilets"......

Typical Northern Boozer......
