It is 2002.....ok very reasonable mileage......but a lot of car for the money in it passes an indie inspection!

The interior aint that bad...and if you keep her for 2/3 years....is is really a deal breaker?

The advert doesn't quote full service history, so this may be a factor along with the difficult interior and the pre-improvement model year. That said if its the combination you're after, then it has to be worth further enquiry.

Decent mileage for the year and looks in good condition from the pic's, surprised at the price, but hey ho if you can get it for the money, go for it!

Was this not the car where the previous owner slated ADG after he went back to up grade to a GT due to the huge loss on the car after just a few weeks?

Price seems about right to be honest for a 2002.........Silver and blue doesn't help...

In a word, the blue interior, its a hard resale so hence the low(ish) price.

If the interior is not your thing there's a cream interior on eBay for about £500.....? Providing you're relatively handy with a set of spanniers & got a few hours to be super careful ..... (maybe I've been watching wheeler dealers too much!!!)

I don't really think there is such a thing as a bargain with educated car sellers, so the vehicle is likely to be cr@p in some way. Could have a poor service history, very worn clutch, might need new boots, etc.

That's surprising. So, for the sake of discussion, what price would you consider fair - assuming it has a bit of a lack of history?

Prices do seem to fluctuate quite alot on the 4200 but I think what you can't see from the adverts are true condition, service history and recent work.

Recent example, there was a dark blue 53 plate 4200 that sold on ebay for £11000 around the Bath area which I went to look at.

Despite it having good history, recent discs there were so many other issues:-

1) Clutch changed 25k ago (so getting near the end of its life)
2) Rear bumper hanging down
3) Laquer peel on rear left corner
4) 30cm scratch on roof
5) Dent on bonnet
6) Front left wing poorly resprayed and you could see the sanding marks through the laquer

In the end it looks like a Cardiff dealer bought the car, put it up for 14k then dropped to 13k. I am not sure if the above were fixed (I suspect not)

IMO the clutch and bodywork alone would amount to 2.5k on top of the original purchase and you would always be worrying about the rest of the car.

Let alone the fact that it felt incredibly slow compared to the 4200 that I later bought.

You either get what you pay for, get a bargain, or get ripped off, BUYER BEWARE!!! Get an inspection if you are not sure?

More to the point you get what somebody else did not pay for.
2 years of ownership and relatively trouble free - it remains to be seen if I made a good buy without the all important inspection - I think I posted on this forum before I bought it and cant recall anyone mentioning it.

RSM, so you bought it? As you know Maserati's already, you will know if you have a good buy. If you have checked it out yourself, found it sound and have bought at the right price, then you will have room for getting any minor repairs done that are required to arrive at perfection. I never saw your post mate on wanting to buy, but I am sure you have done all the right checks, you know what to look for.
She looks the business, like the number!!

I wanted one
It was the right colour, right price, looked good, drove well, low mileage (46K), good history, needed 4 new boots so £500 off the price.
I did not spot the poor respray (not really poor but rear quarter light was not removed) on the rear and bumper which has now started to peel its laquer.
Couple of minor niggles, but I love it!
