I'm giving the old girl a good clean inside and going to use a leather conditioner.
So the question for all you experts is,what is real leather?
Mines a 2005 4200
Thanks in advance, Mark.

In short, only the bits you touch.

Seat faces but not the sides.
Dore card grab handles and the airbag cover and lower pocket.
Dash centre around the heater controls but not the top or sides.

That's about it!

you should see the 3200 dude, the amount of real leather is decreasing with each new model, starting with the 3200 where the engine is made form leather. My car is now 15 years old and still smells of leather.

3200 was the last car to have the whole interior done in Leather including all door cards, centre console and lovely alcantara roof lining. 4200 and on used a majority of faux leather and were built to a limited budget.

Another nail in the coffin for the 4200 over the 3200!

I discovered there was real vinyl on the seat surrounds when I had to cut out a 1 inch square sample to send away for colour dye matching. I took a sample from behind the electric seat buttons panel.
I then noticed it everywhere, rear parcel shelf and all the place Matt mentioned.
I don't have the later LE version. I wonder is the roof lining leather?

Bruce, the quilted optional roof is leather yes and cost something ridiculous like 2 or 3 grand from memory. I think they bundled it with the LE spec, as nobody was going to fork out for it as an option.

Was only discussing how much real leather is in modern cars with a retrimmer over the weekend. We started talking about why Italian leather is so much softer than most other countries and ended up looking at the GT and Spyder leather which ended up in him having a think about some work on both ;)

Why were you talking to a dog about leather interiors?!

I think you may live to eat those words. The 3200 is a fair bit older than the 4200 so age may be a factor.

Ok the 3200 does have some accillies heal items which I am not going to drag up as we all know what they are.

I won't touch another 4200 after the last experience not unless it had had a thorough inspection. It seems the engines are weak especially over 70k miles mark.

That's cr@ppy 3200-owner propaganda based on very limited experience, Phil! You bought a £7k sh1tter unseen and were lucky not to get burnt as it had a couple of nice trinkets on it - it was that price for a reason. Those engines swallow the miles if they're cared for - plenty on here over 70k going strong with correct maintenance. How many miles on your QP with the same engine? Maybe you'd better think about getting rid, sounds like it's a ticking time bomb!!! :)

As I said Mark, "I" won't buy another one, that's purely my decision based on my experience and whilst it was a neglected car it has still put me off how an engine can Bork like that in such little time. It seems to me that this engine is far too sensitive to oil types and it is "my decision" to not buy another. The QP is still prone to similar issues but is a slightly different engine designation and is less likely to suffer from oil/water pump failure, hydrolocking etc....

These are my thought and YMMV.

I seemed to of missed a lol,3200 or 4200 in my opinion there both in need of a little more care and attention than your normal Euro box.also buying well and luck all plays a part to running costs.
