Been through my paperwork, can't find anything relating to replacement. Most bills only go back to 2007. Assume they wouldn't come out of the factory with "penned" on part number, so not sure when mine were replaced.

For someone who is looking to buy, those results from a narrow band(so far) don't make encouraging reading. Any statisticians in the house who could work out a probability factor of the remaining cars being affected. Is there a comparable list of cars inspected with no issues?

Mot and rear tyres today , had a thorough inspection with the tester and at this time all appears well but they will be checked on a regular basis.

My GS came out of hibernation today. Went straight for an MOT and to check wishbones etc. So relieved to say all is well! Passed no problem too!

Had my car serviced on Monday. I took photos printed from this thread to my indi. He was not aware of the issue, nor has seen any failures in Australia.
He was aware there was a redesign of the arms some time ago, using the same part numbers. I got the impression some time ago meant years.

Ditto. Maybe it is corrosion related.

This could be a stupid idea but i will share it anyway :)
One member here has managed to have his wishbone welded in the crack.

Obviously there is the concern of wether the weld will witstand the stress of normal usage.

Would it be possible to wrap a wishbone that has been welded in carbon fiber?

The thing is fairly cheap for the ammount required to wrap the wishbone.

Let me know if its a dumb idea or actually something worth exploring

If heat treated properly, a weld can be as strong as a casting -as far as I know. Don't think your average welding shop will research and apply the correct pre and post heat treatment for welding Mg and Al alloys tho'. It seems clear (IMO) that this is a serious casting defect -it would have been avoided if the sand cast were made so that metal flow during casting was continuous around areas that have high stress.

Cheers

As per the new part which has no mould lines.........strange that since maserati apparently knew nothing about this issue (rolls eyes)

If anyone is REALLY struggling for parts I've found a breaker in the US who has used & new (very limited) available, from California the parts should be in good condition❗️

Geoff has just phoned me from Shiltech...

Spyder has NOT got any cracked front wishbones. This is good :)

Spyder bad handling (rear wheel steering is how I described it) problem now nailed down - the nearside rear arm has a totally knackered ball joint. So, my many feathered friends, this 30 quid part is naturally attached to an arm, which until a few months ago cost a mere £540. They now cost a mighty £1260. This is not so good :(

I'm also not exactly happy that when I bought it last year and gave it to them to completely sort before Susie started driving it, that this was missed. Since a load of bushes were replaced at the rear as part of the job, I'd have thought it might have been noticed then...

Still, it should be back on the road for me to collect when I'm back in the UK next week.

Crikey Drew, how on earth can a specialist miss something as bad as that, when they are working on replacement rear bushes..?? This does not bode well for further work, what will they miss and it's darned dangerous to boot..!!

Not normal service from them - it was 'looked at' by the chap they didn't keep, as he wasn't up to scratch. Clearly, no-one knew that at the time. Still, I can't say I'm happy about it.

They have a responsibility to you to put it right mate, even if you have to chip in a bit for the job, but it should not all be down to you this one..!!
