Soooo. We've had lots and lots of car porn. We've had porn in bottles. A little bit of sea going porn. And a fair helping of audio porn. What flavour of porn will be next, I wonder :p

Ah !
What resolution/sample rate/bit rate do you use and how did you source/rip the files? You've done an interesting thing there.

Well there's a mix as some is downloaded from t'internet, usually at the highest figures available. The rest I ripped a few years back now, and probably wasn't as consistent as I could have been. Didn't use ALAC because I wanted greater compatability so most are MP3 at 128k or higher 24 bit.

I have a chunk of native 24bit as well. I only used Apple Music to rip them in (took a while)

Works well for me and has the benefit of making it available for the multiple media players (Volumio running on Pis) that feed various rooms in the house and garden via mindlna server running on another pi. That's pretty much the heart of the system. The media files are mounted from my NAS to the Musicserver pi. Minidlna then makes it available to the Volumio units and the Cyrus kit in the living room as well as the Cinema (for some video files, though, of course, I can play audio as well)

The Volumios can be controlled by our home automation, as can the Cyrus to a certain extent, via an IR blaster.

Anyyyyway ;)

Can’t remember the exact models, but they are the pre and power amps on the bottom right of the photo of the cabinet.

Indeed. Thing is they mostly look the same :D Only curious, so no big deal. The model name is written bottom right hand corner on the reverse angle.

IMHO Cyrus kit is fabulous. I wanted it in the 80s when it came out, could never afford it. Bought some when my paternal grandmother left me a small inheritance. I then fell into the Cyrus forums and met a guy who was paying his way through uni buying and selling higher end kit.

We did several trades, became pals and then he became (with a smidge of assistance on my part) a product manager for Cyrus. Which meant staff discounts all around, and happy days. No way would I have been in a position to pay list for my primary rig (or indeed the cinema) but once you're in, they hold their value madly. My speakers (not Cyrus) are ebaying for quite a lot more than I paid, but sadly quite a lot less than the upgrade :D

Bi-amping and extra PSX-R's would be next (although speaker cables and interconnects would be cheaper) but over the pandemic I've had less chance to do my thing (which I'm doing right now) with Mrs C out and the volume turned way up.

Pink Floyd: A momentary lapse of reason.

We have a little picture hanging above the system, found in a small shop in Dublin. Printed on a Saint Saens score 'Without music, life would b flat'. Trite, but very true for me.

Music is very much a part of my life too. I’m an amateur Bass player and singer, sometimes part of the Blockheads line up (still gigging regularly pre covid).

I’m also a DJ on a local Norfolk based radio station. If you are in this evening, give me a listen on my weekly Real Music Society show 6 to 8 pm tonight. Use the website link here where you can also listen on catch up if you can’t tune in live. Be interested in your feedback and I do requests!

You got me wondering, so I dug out the manuals and found the invoice for them too. It’s a VS2 pre amp and 8Power power amp that cost me c £1,200 in 2008, so pleased to note they are still going good 13 years later.

Fabulous work you have done here Catman. I'll need a little while to take it all in.

I had to compensate for the lack of inconvenience somehow! ;). Feel free to DM me or pop over if you're in this neck of the woods. In the real world I do technical stuff so more than happy to help any set ups from the geeky side of things.

Had lots of dance vinyl from uni and a technics 1210, which I have my dad a few years ago when his old dual went. Found out last month he'd chucked the technics 1210 as belt had snapped...
