Two issues with my 4200 CC Today

Hey Guys

Had two issues with my car today that I’d appreciate your advice with, please:

1. I joined the CEL club with P2187 “System too lean at idle bank 1”. I cleared it and it hasn’t come back yet, but is there anything common that could cause this?

2. A weird one with the alarm... When the alarm is set, the car locks as usual, but after a few seconds, the hazards flash twice (with about a second gap between the flashes), then approximately seven seconds later they flash twice again and keep doing this. I can’t see anything about this in the manual.

If I lock the car and keep the button pressed (to disable the interior sensor), the hazards stay off after the alarm does the single beep.

Any ideas, please?

  1. No idea
  2. Does the alarm actually go off (i.e. make a lot of noise) if you trigger it (somehow). Because it sort of sounds like the alarm is going off and the siren isn't working.

Yep, the alarm definitely works.

I’ve found a user guide for the alarm, and it says the flash codes represent an alarm memory (door being opened with alarm active), but normally this should only show after the alarm is disarmed, not armed.

Super weird. Gonna call Abacus Alarms in the morning

Flash codes used to be on the LED on the dash. Not the hazards. I think Abacus is a good shout

1. This can be caused by a failing lambda sensor, an air leak in the manifold gasket, faulty MAF and quite a few other issues. I would see if it comes back.

I've had 1. too several times, always when I've let the petrol tank go to almost empty. Assumed it's bits of shít getting into the fuel system so I never run on empty now.

Abacus reckon the alarm thing is a fault with an interior sensor.

I've tested the doors, bonnet and boot and they all set the alarm off, but I can get halfway in the car through an open window and the alarm doesn't go off.

Wonder if I've buggered something up when fitting the stereo?

Temporary "fix" is to arm the alarm by holding the button rather than briefly pressing it, which disables the interior sensors.

Took apart the slave sensor (from the driver’s side A Pillar) to have a look at it, as the plastic housing seemed bent - So is the circuit board!

Disconnected both (I assume they work as a pair), and apart from having no interior sensors, the alarm is now behaving.74928

Hi Josh
Where is that sensor located. The only issue I ever had with the alarm in the 4 years of ownership was having to stand against the car to operate it. Found the aerial wire had somehow broken off the alarm unit (situated behind the passenger side rear trim panel).
Had the alarm go off occasionally and it was the interior sensor. Incidentally the flash codes were not the same as the manual stated. When I tested it by activating various doors/ boot/bonnet and sitting inside the car waving my arms about, the flash code I was seeing said door but was actually activated from the interior sensor.

Hi Mike

It was the driver’s side A Pillar (master on the left, slave on the right).

I was getting alarm activation when washing the car (moving my hand around the driver’s side window) which made me think it was a bit too sensitive, but now it seems one of them has bitten the dust.
