Today's request for assitance: Windscreens

The project continues :)

My screen has many fine scratches. Primarily due to wiper blades. I can live with them, but am thinking 'why should I'

So questions:
1) Polish: Tempted to do it myself, or at least have a crack.
2) Get someone else to polish.
3) Replace: Any reason not to use Autoglass or similar?

Thoughts?

TIA

If your insurance is fully comprehensive and covers a replacement, your screen may accidentally get cracked.

I agree, you could be messing around at home with a spade and whoops, your screen gets cracked, oh well, time to call the insurance company :)

It's amazing how often that happens. I have noticed this.
So no real concern about getting Autoglass or similar to swap it?

Well, I have had mixed experiences with general windscreen fitters. Some great, some sh!te.

What I would do is call or visit you local Main Dealer or Indie and see who they use. Basically, if they have done it time and time before there should be no issue. If not, then your inviting trouble.

Sensible advice, thanks!

IIRC, Adam (Gullible) had concerns with AutoGlass but when they fitted it, he was more than pleased with the result. I think there is a thread on it somewhere.

Thanks Benny and Robert. I think I'll go the low-cost route first.

I've used Rain-X to good effect in the past. Will try that first, then up scale to polish and replacement if needed.

Be very careful with the polishing option as you must use the right stuff - optical grade polishing compounds only or otherwise you'll end up driving trying to look through a permanent fog. Maybe speak to a detailer for advice?
