Been using the forum for the last two weeks since I was introduced to the 4200.

Looks like a great forum with a mix of solid technical knowledge and well shared general advice. Reminds me of the TT-forum 10 years ago.

Anyway, I'm currently looking at the most 'affordable' 4200 at a well-known independent near Chessington. Not the cheapest car on the market but comes with a level of confidence as most big items and all services have been completed.

Will be a weekend toy and living in central London, performance will exceed local roads. Will hopefully see some of you at a meet - providing I sign on the dotted line!

Cheers
Nando

Second that, get an independent inspection done. The will turn up any issues and will cost you about £250 to have done.

You will easy be able to then negotiate or have rectified at the vendors expense any outstanding items.

Remember, these cars are relatively inexpensive to get into but very expensive to maintain 'correctly' and thus cars change hands regularly due to pending maintenance item on the horizon.

The indie in Chessington are well know and have a very good reputation so you are in good hands.

Look forward to seeing your car, we have a meet at Ace cafe, the second Thursday in May which should be close to you.

Welcome to the forum Nando. Not much to be concerned about on the 4200 other than the big wear items. Clutch is the main wallet emptier and after that it's brakes. Suspension components are worth checking also.

Indi inspection and a decent service history and you shouldn't have any surprises.

Let us know how you get on?

Cheers, Miles.

Brakes aint the big issue they were 2 yrs ago...now we can get all discs and pads changed for around the £350 mark versus £1300 then! But of course dont say that to the vendor......;)

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone.

I picked up the car last week - lots of service history and most importantly, new pad, discs and clutch in the last 6 months. Should make the next few years of ownership a bit more predictable.

Really need to improve the sound system - I'm left to entertain myself with the V8 soundtrack and that's costing me a small fortune!

Will look at the events board for the Ace Cafe meet.
