I've kept all my train sets, pristine in the original boxes, Triang, Hornby-Dublo etc from my youth in the 60s and 70s and looking at prices on ebay, they're are not worth much at all. I guess they were sold in huge amounts and quite a few people thought the same as me so even today they're not in short supply.
My brother had a fantastic stamp collection and even remember going with him and my parents to Stanley Gibbons on The Strand in the late 60s. But like my train sets are not worth much.
