If they are all prestige brands like a Breitling, they are most likely to be automatic movement as opposed to quartz so no battery to worry about

Hmm. Both my Breitlings and one of my Tags are battery.....

I'm not sure 'most likely' is entirely reasonable. Clearly many high end watches are automatic (as is my other Tag and a couple of others). It's pretty easy to check which is which though.

Dead giveaway I'd have thought is how often the second 'ticks' per second.

Try Timpsons if you only want a battery change. That costs about £20 IIRC.

Whatever you do, DO NOT take an expensive watch to Timpsons.

My stepson worked there for three years And some of the damage done to watches was horrific, and not by him. The favourite, apart from bad scratches due to not using the correct back removal tool, is damage to the the fine coils by slipping screwdrivers.

I have to say, they've always refused to work on my watches. I suspect Benny's experience is different

Consider yourself lucky C. I’m not saying it is impossible to find someone in that company who will take the care to do the job correctly, but the standard of some of the employees is not good at all.

Indeed. And I meant different from my experience which is basically 'We're not touching that' ;)

I always take my Aerospace to Timpsons for a battery change. Apart from the misting, I’ve never had a problem. All my others are mechanical so I take those to the AD.

As I say. Different experience. Last (and only) time I took my Aerospace to Timpsons they simply refused to take it. Ditto my Tag F1 <shrug>

It's all good

Absolutely, what works for you works for you. I’ve got my little collection and I’ll stick with it, otherwise the nagger will de-nut me.

I'm fortunate to be able to walk from my front door to a mountain top in less than an hour, so my watch of choice today is a Traser Commander titanium (military issue).68489

A big fan of the Traser. I’ve had mine since 2001 and it was worn during quite a list of deployments.

I have a few others, nothing really fancy but a real soft spot for Vostok and Paketa.
