Advice please
My better half has several nice watches that belonged to her late husband.
One in particular is a Breitling (not sure of the model)
None have been used for some years now and we are worried the batteries will be corroding inside.
Obviously Breitling is the place to send them to but I expect it will be costly and wondered if there was an alternative.

Luxury Watch Repairs in Hatton Garden. But if you just want to get the batteries out a tool will be available from ebay for very little money.

Or send them to me for safe keeping....

Last time I saw you you had a Breitling Aerospace like mine, although yours had a squadron crest on it I recall

Well remembered!! I’ve still got it but is no longer my daily. I replaced the titanium bracelet but other watches have taken its place since. I do feel a bit guilty about wearing my Seiko as a daily but it’s much too nice not to.

Try Timpsons if you only want a battery change. That costs about £20 IIRC.

Meh, why feel guilty. I rotate my watches but my Air Hawk and Carrera are the most often dailies.

I suppose guilty is too strong a word. It’s subtle enough not to be seen as flashy but will be recognised as a nice watch by those who know.

As catman suggests, given it has been sleeping for some time I would also consider a reputable outfit to service, not just change the battery.

Not many do, but they are becoming more sought after. However, I got it so I can wear and appreciate it, not to keep it in its box and let it appreciate.

The first watch I bought myself was a Seiko and the latest I bought was a Seiko too. I absolutely love it; it’s the most comfortable, most accurate and best looking watch I’ve ever had. It’s taken over from the AirKing as my daily. A big thumbs up to the Japs.
I didn't realise how much you could spend on a seiko until recently , I thought they were in the £50-£500 bracket Screenshot_20200412-133808_Samsung Internet.jpg

If they are all prestige brands like a Breitling, they are most likely to be automatic movement as opposed to quartz so no battery to worry about, but the movements will need servicing. Any local jeweller that sells prestige watches should be able to identify them and give you an idea of value.

I’ve attached a photo of my collection if any of yours look similar to identify. All are “clockwork” not battery quartz. Fascinates me how such tiny intricate movements (esp the Turbillons in the Breitling and Patek) work and the skeletons on the Maserati and Chopard allow you to see it all going on.
