I've stayed there. The gym is pretty good as well. Get yourself to Sports Direct and buy some cheap kit.

Strange my wife felt exactly the same, totally uncomfortable when out on the streets and normally nothing phases her.

Have you been there? Step outside the safe areas (by which IME, crossing the road qualifies) and you can *see* people start to casually move towards you....

Feels like I'm being kept away from the fun spots so far. I'll have to bust out to really feel alive, but this part of town (Brooklin) seems pretty calm / boring. Like Mrs Andy, few things phase me. I'm not brave, just not very observant. The only time I've ever felt especially uncomfortable was a nasty night in Stoke Newington. And another in Johannesburg.
