Morning

So being the newbie asking stupid questions, since buying the new baby Ive been starting her up and sitting there for 5-10 minutes letting her warm up before pulling away and giggling like a lunatic.

Is it better to let her warm up before pulling away, does this increase clutch life etc.

Ive seen some tricks re pushing the accelerator down a few times before start up to reduce that lovely clunking shift change when cold, but wanted to see what other members did.

(OH and any tricks for holding her on a hill thats an interesting challenge as my porsche tiptronic just sat on the bite and sort of waddled there and if not then it was maybe that I had a handbrake lever that I could pull gave me the reassurance of I won't roll backwards, or Im just a cr%% driver)

I do the pushing the pedal trick and it works a treat however I don't sit and wait for it to warm up I just drive off once started...My neighbours would probably give me and ASBO if I sat there for 10 mins :D

Did the pushing the pedal trick today and on ignition, warning light came up to say ASR unavailable go to dealer !!! Fired her up and all ok and indeed less clunky.

That's interesting. I get the ASR light occasionally. I must try the pedal trick and see if I can spot a pattern.

Eeeeek! Could be battery. Stick it on a conditioner. ASR and other ostensibly random warnings can herald the beginning of the end of your battery. Since buying a big beefy Bosche mine has been much happier.

Otherwise I always do the pedal thing and never leave it running for 10 mins. I have an x-pipe so the noise is, ah, somewhat conspicuous.

As for hill-starts. I just stop, use the brake and then pull away when I'm ready. Left foot looks after the brake, right foot does the loud pedal. The car is quite good at holding it on a hill but the implications on clutch wear don't bear thing about. <shudder>.

Open door, start car, check rev limiter is working and then drive off (normally on rev limiter) - I don't like my neighbours :D

I've never bothered with the pedal thing as never found a need. Surprised nobody has mentioned pressing the Sport button or the Auto button. I always drive with Sport and never use the (in my opinion) useless auto mode.

I press SPORT once I have warmed her up ;)

Good point - I also turn auto off, because it's cr@p.

Mines an every day drive, always in sport "manual"

I've had the engine light on at random times and the immobiliser has recently refused to disarm without a battery reset, (a bit embarrassing outside the local shops), also the oil warning and pressure drop and flash red. Sometimes that's when the cooling fans kick in.

After a recent flat battery I have experimented with doing a 4hr charge one night a week. Not a problem since !

I'm thinking my usual 5 miles each way to work is not re-Charging the battery enough ?

Marios told me its probably the cause of the problems, and the battery was a new Bosch last dec, anyhow It's off to Autoshield tomorrow for a few bits.

Not washed her for 3 weeks so she's probably feeling neglected

Hill starts! What's the problem? Two feet and two pedals. Press the left pedal with your left foot and when you want to move off, press the right pedal with your right foot and as soon as you sense the revs drop, ease left foot off the left pedal and stow left foot. Simples.

If I'm not mistaken is this not how f1 drivers use the stop and start pedals
