Fellow members, the Rt Honourable Conaero and colleague Mods......

Looking over the ebay/classics sales auctions over the last few days and a following on from a number of posts/threads about the more classic Maseratis.....I would like to put a proposal before the forum.

I am sure this has been done before and doubtless there may well be experience on the board around this idea.

If we formed a 4/5/6 man plus syndicate to buy a classic Maserati, from 70s/80s, ownership being in the form of a company/syndicate format.

The realisation being that for many of us, owning a high end classic sports car with an end value (?) of 30/40/50 K wouldn't be a viable proposition, but amongst a defined group, it could be enjoyed for a "time shared" period over the course of a year ( winter storage excluded)

We would therefore need to agree the following ( not in the exact order of doing though!)....

1. The car

2. The initial purchase budget - ( whether a car with little to do/car needing mechanical or body work done/or full restoration)

3. A time frame for payments into the agree budget fund, framework for said agreed work

3. The timeframe over which the car will be owned ( plus get out agreements (annually or after first 3 years)/transfer of part ownership, final sale and dividing of sale realisation)

4. Co-ordinator of project and benefits accrued by doing so.

5. A legal contract to keep everyone involved safe and sound.

6. Time share usage over a rolling 3 year period.

This is just a tentative proposal.......I've missed out plenty no doubt.......but let me know your thoughts and whether this forum can come up with something potentially quite wonderful for those who might get involved in said project.

Thanks for your time in reading this!

The constitution of this could be quite easy, using a private limited company type basis. Have 52 shares each of £xxx (to meet the purchase price of the car(s)) and then sell them 1 share = 1 week of use. Each share would then need to contiubute £xx p.a. to cover the fixed costs of ownership (tax, insurance, maintenace etc). Shares could be bought and sold between members but transfers would be governed by the Articles of Association. On sale of the car, the proceeds (or loss!) would be split by £xxx per share.
Such a company would be classified as small and not require statutory audit, and the costs of such would be quite low.
The difficult part would be agreeing what car to buy!

Been away camping with the family for a few days and just caught up on this one and would definitely be up for its. I would only want to do it with people I know and trust. Agree with Andy, a share would be bought and could be sold on or purchased within the syndicate when an individual want to leave. The next thing is running costs. I suppose each person would have a limited mileage they could do. The area that concerns me, is the car would pick up knicks and scratches upon the way, curbed alloys etc. Now this would have to be picked up on change over and the individual would be liable for its repair.

The next thing would be the type of car. Loz is someone I trust so would be up for it, but his taste in Classic Maserati is firmly in the 50's and 60's, where mine is firmly 70's.

I think the less people involved the better 4 or 5 max.

For me the cars would be and in this order, Bora, Ghibli SS, Merak. Not interested in anything 80's/Bi Turbo. Budget willing to put in £10k

This could be had for £40k, 3 more of you out there?

Well...this is were the debate starts Conaero...................:)

Ideally, limited mileage/weeks usage pa......depending...just like a flat timeshare really......

Personally, would prefer a part finished project or good restoration car.................limited body work say.....choosing a paint job......mostly mechanical......putting our own "thumbprint" on it so to speak.............and a time frame
