Not sure how long it takes but if he can do 2 in a day a trip to midlands would be worth his while.
Might well be worth more than a day... I'm West (very West) Midlands based and can put him up in one of our holiday cottages if we can work out a schedule that works for everyone.

Can you listen to the radio or CD player whilst viewing the SatNav via CarPlay (Waze / Apple Maps / Google Maps)?
Does the phone have to be wired to the system or can it be connected wirelessly?
Does it need a microphone and if so, can the factory one be used?

So the answer for mine is
1. No - effectively there is only one sound output in use - so can listen to a CD and have waze going but without sound...
2. you can connect via Bluetooth but I prefer to cable mine and store in the phone in the arm rest - that way the phone is fully charged on arrival
3. Separate mic on mine - it’s v discrete

@Devonboy,
1. I usually listen to music from the files that I've copied to the car's hard drive. Based on what you say, it sounds like that won't be possible, as the hard drive will be being used to run the ACP/AA apps (inc. GoogleMaps and Waze)... You say that you can listen to CDs whilst running the ACP/AA apps (albeit without sound from the ACP/AA apps). Based on this, do you know if you can listen to music directly from a USB memory stick instead of a CD (whilst GoogleMaps is running for instance)?

2 & 3. If a car has Bluetooth already built-in, and a phone is connected via Bluetooth, why is an extra microphone needed? Is it purely for voice commands for the ACP/AA interface? Can you still use the original microphone for calls made via Bluetooth?

Cheers,
T

New kit brings new choices....and change.....and based on my system....

1. The hard drive functionality will work but (if you refuse to embrace spotify :) ) it will leave your apps silent whislt the jukebox plays via the single audio output. The car's hard drive is not used by the apps etc as that kit has its own memory etc. The solution is to transfer your music files to your phone via itunes and play via car play,or to build a playlist within spotify or similar. You will not be able to use the USB stick as that port is taken over by the apple car play kit.

2&3 Dunno cos this is a technical question but my GUESS is that with this kit you have two separate systems and they dont mix. The kit keeps the car system totally stock,so if you dont switch to car play, you wouldnt know it was there. I dont think the maserati system can cope with splitting inputs - so the car mike input sticks with the standard system and hence a seperate mic input for the car play

Can it be used without saying “Hey Siri”? Is there only me that doesn’t want to say that?

Did you have to drill the bumper to fit the camera? Is there an option to fit it under the release lip?

Re radio, i think you can listen to your favourite Radio stations via TuneIn radio app that comes with carplay and still view Waze or AppleMaps !

Should do. It only requires the can bus hi and low wires to be tapped into plus the box sits in the middle of the video cable....all the screens are the same so and every car has a can bus hi and low.

Maybe if you send me your unit (it pops out the front very easily) I can put it in my car to prove it.

Correct as that is all car play - multiple all talking in car play is fine - so I have tune in radio and waze on the go with messages being read to me and replied to etc...no problems with that

Does it connect by Bluetooth or does it need to be wired because my gt is an early model with no usb port?

Both. When wired, it charges too and DevonBoy tells me it works with BT too but wired for him is preferred.

Yup the signal degradation in the armrest is low so it works fine - by the way Conaero, I am trying to reorganise my diary at get to the pub on the 14th March...

You don’t want Bluetooth as Navigation really drain the battery - let alone multiple apps so you want it on charge

Would be very interested to find out if it works with QPV PreFacelift. I'm in St Neots, Cambs, if anyone is nearby and wants to meet up to test.
Happy to get pics of the rear of the radio, Ive had it out before but didnt get pics..!

I am also interested to get one as well, but not sure if I have the skills to disassemble the various parts to install the kit. The last thing I need is for me to damage something during the installation process. Realistically, how long would the whole installation process take?

Well an update is I have it all working bar the reverse camera and it’s awsome.

I’ll keep fiddling with it over the next week to get it perfected.

The reverse camera is working and the screen flicks over but is blank, I have to wire it to the correct input.

Reverse camera now working...it’s all working so I’ll post a video soon.

It’s brilliant and seeing CarPlay up on the screen plus the touchscreen and it looking 100% stock makes it feel like a new car.

It’s been a long road but I’m over the moon with it!

I'm quite excited about it. When changing from my GT-R to the GTS, the backward step in infotainment was my biggest niggle.
This should bring it right up to date, and I think will make a big difference come resale. (not that I'm selling any time soon)

Also, I love a bit of DIY so looking forward to getting my teeth into it!

For £150 pro install in one day I would highly recommend it.

Saying that, now I have produced some proper instruction and worked out all the issues it should take the diy’er a weekend.

I’m going to do Zep’s over a weekend to prove that theory.
