SM Apple CarPlay / Android Auto

Do you know if the new kit has the updated screen Bebs mentioned? If so, I’d be interested in ordering one too if I’m not too late? Cheers

I'm on the list but definitely interested in the above improvements . I would order that version if its available. Thanks.

Yeah got to admit if there is a better screen then i would prefer that all day long... along with the new unit, subject to pricing but as long as there isn't a massive difference then im on board...

Will do waiting on the new box to arrive from China for testing and I’ve found the upgraded screens Paul was using.

The touch screen on mine seems to have blank spots where the icons don’t recognise when I push them. Will the new screens fix this Matt ?

Yes. I will get a batch and sell them separately

I’ve had zero issues with mine as has Zep

Quick question for SM CarPlay users. When using Waze the loudness/volume of the spoken directions always seem to be far lower than the radio/music playing at the time..
Anyone know if there’s a fix for this or is it just waze specific?
Cheers

On CoPilot the volume of instructions is different than other volumes and you can turn it up or down when an announcement is playing. Might be the same with Waze?

I’ve not had an issue with that. Perhaps it is one of the settings in Waze. Try Voice & Sound.

Can I double check that this, even the new box, is still just for the facelift QPV? I have a 2007 ZF QPV with the older NIT system.

So I'm gonna attempt to start to install this tomorrow, I have one of the first batch kits.
I had a spare couple of hours today so managed to run the camera cable from the boot to the front of the car and mounted the camera between the boot release and reg light.

Its been a while since the first ones were installed and I know things have moved on to a new kit etc...

1. Any handy fitting tips from those that have done it, or @conaero ;) regularly do it? Still as per original instructions or are there any lessons learned that I can take advantage of?

2. Looks like a USB extension cable is recommended so future dongles can be replaced or changed, so I'll order one on amazon now. Anything else recommended?

3. Is the dongle required to run android auto? or can you plug charging cable straight in the android box?

4. I notice the Dongle output is only 0.5A, is that enough to keep a phone charged when running android auto, maps and streaming etc

5. Any benefit of having a memory card fitted in the android box?

Any pointers appreciated. Cheers.

Here is a picture of the unused parts for my install. The video cable on top is the one that came stock with the car. It is not needed as you utilize the new video cable to plug into the screen.

Nice work, Zep did say he thought the other video cable was not needed.
I knew it! :p

Well I found out today, that on my kit (first batch) You definitely DO need the OEM video cable between the NIT and the new CANBUS box joined to the new video cable with the back to back pin adaptor as per supplied wiring diagram. I tried without it, and when on Maserati system all I got was a white screen. Fitted it back in and all works ok.
