I found this last night on the internet, I'm in two minds about whether it looks good or not. Some cars suit a proper shaped plates - I seem to recall Rover & MG zt had them.

Thoughts?

Hmmm I was wondering if it mimicked the rear profile i.e. Upside down from the image above, it might look better. I'm talking myself out of it now..

It would look better if the left and right side of the number plate came to a point in the middle. Like a triangle shape on the side in effect but still outlined in black.

I actually rather like it, but asking for a tug, isn't it?

Because of the shape? Not sure why so long as the font etc is compliant, Rover 75's had them shaped to fit. Saying that there doesn't seem to be any understanding from the local plod about plates, the number of clearly 'illegal' fonts, spacing and colours I see on my travels makes me wonder. Still, you only need the one copper who knows his onions so to speak..

Interesting. I assumed they had to be rectangular. Apparently not!

Not for me. Looks odd.

I have a shortened plate (5 character plate) but actually think a full sized UK plate looks best - makes the car look wider/lower IMO.

Would it look better the other way up so long edge at bottom & shorter edge at top? Would satisfy my symmetry resolution better ;)

Strange isn't it, most are, but no legal definition of shape, only background font etc. Obviously rectangular is nice and easy to make etc, but begs the question why we don't see more variation or plates better suited to the car they are on. I'm off to look at my front plate and see how small I can get away with to avoid scrapping it on the drive and speed bumps.

When I was a scuffer, the 'Construction and Use' regulations stated that a plate (on a car) had to to rectangular, flat and vertical. I was even tempted to book a BMW 635i owner because the front number plate followed the shape of the front bumper. Never did though. I would have recommended that E-type owners that stuck the plate on the bonnet be sent to the scaffold! :D

Must admit never thought about the shape of the plate and don't think I will bother after seeing these

I don't like them on Jags never mind anything else. Seems to be harking back to the good old days.

I do wish there was an option to lose the front plate though. Ruins the lines. Can't even mount it offset like on Alfas.

You were a scuffer?
That explains many things
