Seats and moving forward automatically and diverse other things

After my *very great fun* drive, this morning thought I'd check a few bits out.
New wiper blades (courtesy of eBay and the previous threads. So far seem pretty good. I don't normally touch anything other than Bosch, but for £5.49....)

Alarm system: Is it possible to silence the siren, or more accurately *un* silence it? When armed, the indicators blip 3 times (as opposed to the manual's suggested twice) and there is no sound.
I armed it, unlocked the door and opened it with the key, and although the indicators went off, no sound.
I have seen similar things o the Alfa 156 where they smartly put the siren in the front wheel well to protect the body from road spray by sacrifice. Is this similar on the 4200 or something else?

Finally: Setting the seat memory. I clearly have a slightly dodgy 'M' button on the driver's side, but position correctly stored. What it *won't* do is move forward when the seat back is tilted.

I tried the reset in the manual (key in stop, open door, forwards, stop, backwards, stop, forwards, stop, backwards, stop, tilt seat back and wait for it to move all the way forwards and backwards twice). I would have to wait until approximately the heat death of the universe it seems. Is there a trick to the reset, or am I missing a switch / something.

I don't really mind, since pretty much no one will ever get in behind me, but...

Cheers

When I first bought mine, had similiar problems.
Seats wouldn't move, and after selecting reverse, the mirrors wouldn't return to their normal positions.
I thought, only had it a couple of days, what have I bought!
Anyway, did a battery reset, isolating the battery for half an hour to be sure, then did the seat reset, and all has been well for the last year.

Thanks, sir.

I know it's had a new battery, so I'll leave off that for a bit. The mirrors and stuff all work as they should, which is a nice touch :)

Mine do all sorts of weird things but rarely what they should = It's Italian....

Only time the both worked correctly was after thrashing it around Bruntingthorpe all day!

Another good thing about the spyder; you don't need to move the seats!

I *may* have spoken too soon. It still won't move forward when tilted. Its probably still me, I'll play some more at the weekend.

Mine sometimes goes forward when tilted, sometimes (more often than not) don't, and iv done the seat reset and battery reset a few times, and sure it behaves for a period, then goes all Italian again

I'm absolutely positive that if everything works perfectly on these cars, you must have bought a dud.

Yep, you're probably right :) The heated seats work, which was nice this evening. So I'm happy with that bit.
Need to wear the rear tyres out, though. They're basically cr*p!

Yep. Even at quite modest accelerations.

Granted the roads are cold and damp, but they are Nangking on one side and some no name POS on the other.

They will be gone as soon as I've scrubbed them to the steel ;)

Catman.

When my car's seats are tilted to allow back seat access, they auto-slide the wrong way, don't return to the original setting, and so on. I have to manually return the seats to where they were before tilting each time, and Lord knows them are GLACIALLY slow (pre-global warming GLACIAL). Luckily I almost never have back seat use. My (US car) alarm gives the same indications as yours, but it does function correctly. Perhaps more than one setting or vendor supply them.

Thanks, Oh-5. I'm pretty much the same. Very few people will be getting in behind me :) Would be nice to get the alarm working, but I think it's something that can wiat for warmer days.

Currently it's in the indy, for the matrix replacement. It behaved absolutely impeccably in the traffic down to East London, so I am very worried there must be something hideous wrong *somewhere* ;)
