Scale Models

I made the geeky decision a few months ago to try and replicate my entire car history in 1/43 die cast models. It has proved, in no particular order, satisfying, frustrating and expensive.

E.g. I have a perfect Granturismo S by Minichamps, even in the correct shade of grey, to represent my last car but nobody makes a 1/43 facelift GT Sports like I have now. You can find plenty of Stradales and Mk 3s though.

Some of the crappy cars I’ve owned, I’ve been able to find - c1970 Simca 1100, believe it or not, but they’ve cost £80 or so - not much less than I paid for the full size version. Some of them exist out there somewhere but aren’t made anymore and are incredibly rare, like my Vauxhall Magnum 1800 - none available on the open market, and some, like my Ford Escort 1100 estate base model (first company car - don’t blame me), unsurprisingly, nobody bothered making in 1/43, nor any other size, most likely.

So far, I’ve purchased just 10 of the 26 in total. Those in bold/italic are those that currently reside on my wIndow ledge and cause ‘dusting’ issues for SWMBO.

Some of you have an inclination towards Alfas and historic cars and whilst I was out on my permitted exercise this afternoon, I noticed that our local hobby shop had a 1:12 scale Alfa Romeo 8C in the window:

There are cheaper suppliers out there, but if it interests you perhaps you would support one of the many thousands of small businesses struggling to stay afloat.

Note. Need to prop up shelf with a few brackets! floating shelves never work out for me.

Interesting project, never been into models before but this idea may turn my head.
I will start with a list of cars and then see what’s available.

Cool idea!
A rather large display cabinet will be required at some point.

Incredible!

C

I've had to pack them away as I couldn't stop handling them and they were going to get damaged, the detail on the interior is incredible , apparently you buy the kit then you can buy detailed interiors from specialist suppliers.

I have to admit to same geekiness although I have 98 to find :-(. Made a start a couple of years back...

one cabinet full and top two shelves of another so far,,8032480325
