Hi,

Anyone into scale models? I collect and have a pretty large collection of 1/8 Scale models from various classic and modern builders, Amalgam etc,etc... (all cars or car related.. engines etc..) I also build custom models.

I am interested to see if I'm in the minority here!

Never heard of Amalgam but £6500 each for the 1/8 models I suspect you might be

They do look incredibly detailed though, I'd be interested in seeing some of the ones you've built

Three Amalgams below, various types and ages.

The Aston Dbr9 is 1 of 1, built for the Aston Martin Race team, it was on display at their sponsors HQ in London before it shut down.
the Jordan is one of the original Amalgams, roughly 15 years old, It was once owned by Martin Brundle, if you compare it to the BAR Honda which is modern, you can see how far amalgam have come along.

The steering wheel is 1/1 scale, made from real carbon fibre.

This will sound crazy to some, but £6,500 (which is cheap for a 1/8 Amalgam) is actually cheap in the grand scheme of high end model making, The older models by the classic french/italian builders sell for £20K+
Amalgam now make their models in China, which has ruined it a bit for me!

The 1/8 Porsche engine is by a Japanese company called Maurshin, very, very rare model, If you can pick up a fully working one now you're looking at £5K+ I sold all 6 I had to a buyer in Germany who is fitting them in a 1/8 Carrera RSR model!

The senna, Lambo, Skyline, Datsun, Porsche & GTR are whats called partworks, sold over a serious of issues etc etc, the skyline, datsun are particularly rare.

They run on compressed air.

Some other models below which are part work models from Japan or this country, I will dig out my custom builds over the weeked and post some pictures for you

This is part business, part personal collection for me.

Some more pictures, The Harley engine is actually 1/6, by Marushin Japan, it did originally run, but I dismounted it and put it on a wooden base.

The Sl is another Partwork, from Germany.
The GTR wasnt available in Black, so I had it resprayed.
The Rothmans is by a company called PMA (pauls model Arts) extremely rare model.
Picture of the senna displaying the engine.

The classic merc is by a builder called Javan smith, it was one of his earlier models,

The HUGE ferrari 250 Gto is 1/5 Scale, it's an original Prototype by a company called RAE who later went onto release this model with a fully detailed interior,

Also a picture of a few 1/12 Tamiya F1 models that I have built over the years

This, however, is probably one of my favourites, A 1/8 Ferrari Laferrari from a Japanese company called Hachette, it was also produced in Japan, I built this from the Kit they provide.

Impressive collection

You've got me looking up hachette on Ebay now , so far I've found a Lancaster bomber and a tiger tank , I do wonder why somebody would collect 130 magazines then sell them on Ebay for a lot less than they cost though.

Thank you,

You won’t find the Laferrari in the UK, try Italy. A company called Centauri sell them there, but without black wheels and parts, they are only available with hachette which is in Japan, I had 5 of them, 4 sold and one for my own collection. Roughly £2-2,500 each depending on condition
Or £1,500-£2k for the Italia version

At one point I had over 80 1/8 scale models, then I turned it into a business aswel as pleasure

Wow, thats a terrific (and very valuable) collection/hobby/business.
I had no idea they made models that are so expensive....Are they plastic/metal/carbon fibre or does it depend on the kit?
Do you actually make them up or are they all ready assembled?

I only ever got as far as Tamiya models...made up a few R/C cars etc ( Damon Hills Williams- think the same as your Villneuve Rothmans? And an Audi A4 Quattro Saloon Touring car)) which look a bit 4th division compared to yours!

That Senna McLaren F1 Car with the raised bodywork looks fabulous- very classy and clever the way its displayed.love it.

Great collection. I had a number of 1:43 scale but sold most of them. Don't have many left apart from these.

Also have the full 1996 F1 grid in Minichamps 1:43 scale.

Welcome to the forum, and what a lovely collection you have.

I'm sure that most petrolheads will have been into models at some point and I'm one of them, but CMC's are about my limit price-wise; kicked myself when I forgot about a couple of CMC Maseratis at auction last year, especially when I saw the hammer price later! I often get emails from Oliver Strebel-Ritter who seems to get some nice models, albeit out of my league, are you acquainted?

Yeh , those are way out of my league, CMC are about the only mainstream co to do a Maserati, I particularly like the 300s rolling chassis , good value I think.

I usually pick up some 1/43s or 1/18s if I’m feeling reckless. For Italian stuff the best place to go, somewhat obviously, is an Italian show. Highly tempting to make an Italian Car chase diaroma in 1/43 with lots of Caribinieri and police cars but I lack the time or space.

Didn’t stop me buying some rather cool 159s in Caribinieri and police colours.

Maserati-wise I’ve got a few of the Maserati/whitebox cars, but I find that it’s all money I could be spending on my real cars :/
I love the Ottomobile stuff. Doesn’t open up but it’s a good price for such big models. Their AMG/Alpina/Alfa stuff is highly tempting...

Got these out of the loft yesterday....Full 1997 F1 grid....

While I was up there found my Starsky & Hutch Torino ...Had it for Christmas back in the 70’s. Shame the box is so damaged as they are up for over £100 I see. Forgot I had it.

I put together a 1/18 scale Bburago Ferrari when I was 8, which I still have now. But this is another level completely and the detail on the models you have is really impressive. Thanks for sharing!

Some very impressive models you guys have there, I must get one of a Granturismo Trofeo as I have seen quite a few around of varying quality plus the Scaletrix models too
