S1/S2 Spider - where to buy?

After AutoItalia at Brooklands today, decided to satisfy the Italian car bug with an Alfa spider, the 70/80s sort.

Very few on Pistonheads, where are the other places to look for good ones?

Think a boat-tailed car is out of my range (looking for cheap fun, oo-er) but if possible... well who knows! Don't want an S3 with the rubber spoiler or the S4 with it's bodykit. So an early car, prefereably not red but most of them are.

Need a 2.0 car I think, must have a *little* bit of pace.

Hi Marcos,
I went to see Edward Labinjoh late last year when I was looking at a QP1,
he is based in Edinburgh so not right on the doorstep, but there are plenty of flights...
Although I did not buy anything from him, he did seem a genuine person, we spoke many times on the phone,
and I did meet him at his workshop/sales room...he also sent me lots of pics that I asked for before I went to see him...
Anyway, here is a link...http://labinjoh.co.uk/id14.html
There is a ser 2 on there and a couple of ser 3
I will also have a look at a few Auto Italia mags...seem to remember seing a couple in there :D
Regards,
Enzo.

Thanks Enzo... Edinburgh would be a **** of a drive home, but for the right car...

Mind you, closer than South Africa!

that's nice Adam, I am thinking of getting a spider next year as a run around to replace my fiat

Sorry guys I must be out of step here, but I just don't get it, I can't see what you see in them to be honest. The design is all wrong to me. It's Ok from the front to the windscreen and then, it all goes wrong. The doors are too small, the rear wing (from the door shut to the back end) is far too long, the huge rear overhang makes the wheels look they are in the wrong place and the hood is far too upright when erected. IMO it would look better if the doors were extended to the rear hood frame and the rear overhang was reduced. TBH I wouldn't want to be seen in one. IMO, not one of Alfas better efforts. Sorry. Cue incoming!

Just a cheap little classic to run for the summer Benny - always liked them, a few quirks like the dash mounted gear knob make them a bit of fun. No raving beauty, but quite sweet I think.

Sorry for the rant Marcos, it's obviously a case of "horses for courses'. I'm always hearing people say how nice they are and how much they want one, so much so I was getting the "Emperors new suit" feeling and I thought I would try to add balance to the discussion. I guess we will have to agree to disagree on it's merits but if it ticks your boxes go for it and enjoy the wind in your hair!

No worries Benny, like you say horses for courses. At least we agree the 4200 Spider is a stunner though :) It's no raving beauty but it is an icon. Wish I could spend out on a boat-talied version but we're into £10k+ there and that's 'why haven't you bought a house yet' territory ;)

Adam - honestly don't care! Mrs would like a white one, if I could choose I'd have black with tan. But a red with black S2 has just appeared so I am hoping to dispatch a pal to take a look at it for me, none other than mine and Dem's mate Johnny Woods (of Harly fame). He had one and ran until it dissolved and has a middle east car in his garage that has been under going restoration for at least 10 years :) But he knows the cars. Fingers crossed for a good result, it's up for £3.5K!!! Probably a dog, but who knows...

not really a beauty but a great little car for £4-5k, lots of Italian character, I still want one

Exactly! 130bhp in a light car, revvy little twin-cam and roof you can open and shut from the driver's seat!

What's not to like :)

As Enzo said Lewis there are usually a few for sale in Auto Italia plus Ebay...
